I just wanna know if this is more of a myth than a fact. I don't wanna buy 2142 if it has spyware. But I think the spyware is due to the in-game ads, right?

nope, its all clean
There is no spyware..
The "Spyware" that comes with it is really just for the in-game ads..
Its not the normal Type of Spyware like Keyloggers and all that nasty stuff where they can get your Credit card number and info and crap like that..

The yes voters have not played the game.
EA have a program on your machine which gathers Infomation about your play, were you live etc. EA forgott to tell you that you need this porgram on your pc to run 2142. Thus its called "Spyware"Wiki wrote:
Spyware is a broad category of software designed to intercept or take partial control of a computer's operation without the informed consent of that machine's owner or legitimate user. While the term taken literally suggests software that surreptitiously monitors the user, it has also come to refer more broadly to software that subverts the computer's operation for the benefit of a third party.
So yes you do.

I always have 1 or 2 items of spyware per scan, but i have no idea where they come from

It is considered spyware, but it isn't really malicious. I say it's safe.
Its not spyware... This has been discussed.
I'm freaking lunatic about spyware and viruses and I NEVER had one. If I was sure It had it it wouldn't have been installed on my computer.

Thats it right there, it wont harm your computer in any way, but your details will be recorded and then sold to a 3rd party company, such as your email address...Havok wrote:

It is safe, honestly the FTC just fined a company 3Million for spy-ware, trust me EA would not put bad software in with their games.
Its more or less just localization, so you dont get ads in German in you speak English, etc

Its already in your system cash and they help each other spawn after they have been 'killed'dont_be_ss wrote:

It will only see things DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE GAME WHILE THE GAME IS ON. If thats spyware to you isnt punkbuster also spyware... steam.. ect?

It only spies on the adds you look at in the game. The system is designed to find out which billboard are looked at the most so EA could charge apropriatly. For instance I l see billboards often on Fall of Berlin and Belegrade but not so much on Shundia Trabia and Verdun, so EA would see this info and then because of it charge more for Fall of Berlin adds than Shundia Trabia adds.

No did you read Wiki's definition, you don't know its there! I know that Steam is there, i also know that Punkbuster is there. What i didn't know was that EA had "Forgot" to tell us you cant play this game unless you let us install this program so we can gather information about you looking at adds. Also how do you know that there not getting your email address? they say they aren't, but from past experiences what EA say and what EA do are 2 different things!lavadisk wrote:

And the fact is that the spyware ISNT 'spyware' you all speak of. Nobody got my email adress and my computer Is FREE from spyware.
No its not its free from Malicious spyware, there is a program installed on your machine which gathers info about you, and sends it to EA. Ea did not tell you about this it was found out by users. This program falls under the "Spyware" category.

Ok, And because It doesn't run in the background and I don't get spam I'm alright.R3v4n wrote:

no most people probaly got it from downloading porn!!!
If you have spyware on your computer theres a 1% chance its from a large game publishing company as putting anything like that on peoples systems is an invitation to be sued.
The other 99% is poor computer maintenance & or careless browsing aka the problem resides between the chair and the keyboard.
Ensure you have some form of firewall active and only open the ports you need to have open.
Keep anti virus up to date and scan regularly.
Use mutiple versions of anti adware / spyware keep it up to date and scan regularly, the reason i say multiple is because each adware / spyware program is developed differently and also has different updates so one peice of software may pick up something the other missed.
You will also have less chance of contracting spyware if you ensure you dont go to sus or strange sites..
A computer is abit like a car, if you dont maintain it, it wont run well and if you leave the keys on the dash board someone else is going to drive it.

YES. You speek the utmost obvious truth. Thats exactly what I do and what I'm surprised that others don't.Disodium wrote:

Wow. They take your IP (which they have free access to when ever you log onto any BF game (the servers also has access to your IP)) and they use it to find out what country you live in so that you won't get French ads if you live in an English country, and you won't get dutch ads if you live in France.R3v4n wrote:

That's FAR from being "spyware."
They don't steal your information and sell it to third parties, they don't track where you go on the internet, they don't log your passwords, they don't monitor your activity or attempt to steal your credit card information.
Because they don't need spyware to get your email address. You signed up with it, so they already know what it is.R3v4n wrote:
