I have a HP Pailion zd8000 and have only one gb of ram.  when in game i'm using practically all of my ram.  If i upgrade to two gb how will my game improve.  will the stuff running in the background not affect my game play.  And upgrading the ram to two gb how do i go about installing the ram.

See here for zd8000 Maintenance and Service Guide

2 Gigs of RAM will be very expensive as you probably have 2 512MB sticks so you will have to buy 2 1GB sticks and replace as per above - the 2 512 sticks will not be used as you only have 2 slots for RAM.

Use the search feature here for 1Gig vs 2Gig improvements

It is advisable to turn off crap that is running in the background so game play is as smooth as possible.

Yes 2G will improve you load time and your game play.

I bough 2x1Gb stick for my Dell XPS Gen 1 a few month ago for 300$US and sold my 2x512Mb on ebay for 100$US... to total cost for the upgrade 200$US.

And I always turn off/kill background process.

thanks for the help   i have looked at prices and its gonna cost around 80 bucks per gig so i think i'm gonna get it for a christmas present for myself.     Though when installing the ram is it just plug and play?

yes - your system bios will detect new RAM and may just ask that you verify this change

Well, I know this is an old thread, but I have a zd8000 too, and I just bought some ram for it, but if I put a stick in the second slot, it just won't boot. What could be the problem?
