Umm, I'm pretty sure it's just 1 (one) space after a period. Even Microsoft Word will tell you there's a grammar mistake if you put 2 spaces after a period instead of 1. Interesting how most people voted 1, yet the people who posted are the ones that think it's two. Having said that, I really don't think it matters how many spaces you use.

My Microsoft Word doesn't correct if I put two. I was taught by my 5th grade, 6th grade, and 9th grade English Teachers (All former Editors for Newspapers/Publishers) that it was two. Dunno I don't think it matters. They said you can put one also, it's just a different writing style. (Chicago Style vs New York style?)
Its two spaces after the period. That's how its always been. Although, even I do get lazy and only put one sometimes.
my sis has her masters degree in creative writing from brown university.........she says 2
To make things a little more complicated, I put one space after a period unless it is the end of a sentence. For example, if I was to use shorten a word, ie. ie., I only use one space. Now at the end of sentences I use two.
its fun putting 2 spaces between every word and then like 4 after the period because it makes the essay look a little bit longer by adding more lines. just hope you have a retarded teacher like one i used to have.
Null vote. I use both styles, depending on what I'm doing, or by the preference of who I am doing it for.

thanks for backing me up... dickholes... lol
i press Tab.
I believe the MLA calls for 2. I use one most of the time.
One. see? just one.
it depends on what you're doing, in more formal works, using the MLA format i believe (forgive me if i'm fuzzy, it's been a few years) it is 2 spaces. tell your girl you're just more classy and formal than she is
Ohhh realllllly now? DOES SHE?chefvolrath wrote:

I dont care what your sister and her degree say. Both are allowed, but here in Australia, its 1.
Fucking hell, why did america have to go and create their own language? Some americans I know are all like, "Who do those english think they are? Spelling color with a u and all" and its like "Oh, I dont know, maybe just because the language was created and named after them?"
Whatever. Note the one space after.
