everyone made it out ok, but it looks as though one of our own " 1337"  pilots from bf2 tried to pilot this sona gun on wake island

I saw that somewhere else on a more trustworthy site.  It's a French Army Helicopter (Please hold lol's) and suffered a failure in the Tail Rotor I believe.  And one or two people were killed.

it seemed like the pilot never tried to kill his turbines, maybe his throttle got stuck

Nah the out of control spinning more or less guarantees it was a failure on the tail rotor's part.

Powering down a chopper requires 5-10 minutes. powering up a chopper takes 10-15

when you lose your tail you gotta autorotate with engine torque, never looked into it much so i'm fuzzy on the details

losing control of the tail rotor causes the helicopter to spin round and round like that, looked like the guy flared to much, possibly whacked his tail rotor on the ground. and autorotation is typically done at a high altitude, as the engines are cut, the rotors will eventually stop spinning. in a autorotation, the pilot uses the ramaining lift under the rotors to find a clear patch on land and try to land without killing himself and the copter.
