Having an universal language that everyone on the planet speaks as a second language would be great. But getting rid of all the other languages would not be good, because of cultural reasons mainly. Besides, it would be damn boring if everyone spoke exactly like the other.

If by standardized you mean everybody speaks it, then I'll pass. The world would be pretty damn boring if English was "the one" language, not to mention I'm sure there's some intellectual benefit to studying a foreign language.
If you mean taught as much as Spanish is in the USA, then I dont see a problem with that.
