I'm just wondering if 550W is enough to power two x1900xt cards for a crossfire set up. I have a power-hungry overclocked Pentium 805 D right now, so I gotta take that into account as well. I know that it's enough power for a Core 2 Duo setup, but those draw a lot less power. I think it should be fine, but maybe someone's got a definite answer?

Should have no probs as long as its not one of those cheap and nasty ones supplied with cheapo cases or from Ebay for a $ / £

yeah as joker has pointed out, its not really about the watts because they can lie about things and sell you that 550w as peak power plus dump most of the wattage on the 3.3 and 5v rails (cheaper to do).

By far the most reliable method of PSU rating is the amount of amps (A) on the 12v rail, you need to tell us what brands you are thinking of to get a proper answer to your question.

I have an Antec Neo HE 550W power supply. http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails. … dID=28550. It says it is SLI ready but so do most 450W+ supplies so that's not exactly a guarantee. I'm also curious, how much power do the other components drive. I have 2 HD's running, 1 DVD drive, a water cooling kit, and 2 PCI cards. Considering that power requirements are only gonna go up in the next years, would it be wise to invest in say, a 700W power supply? I even heard there's a 1kW coming out, that sounds like overkill, but who knows what the 9800GT's, or the x2000's will draw.

Antec are a good solid make so you got no probs there...as for the future who knows..but I would have thought requirements would drop as die size gets smaller I mean look at the C2D,s they use less now than p4s

Antec 550W will suit fine. Fire it up.
