Hi, I just bought a SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio card (and a set of new 5.1 speakers) but I can't activate the X-Fi sound setting. I will just have a msg saying something like "Your sound hardwares is incompatible with...".

I've been through all "Tech" msg but can't find a solution. The closest I've come to an answer is that I need to set the card in "Game mode" in the audio console but I can't find that setting.

I have the latest drivers.

Anyone any idea???

Its because you don't have the XFi with the 64Mb of XRAM. Only those card are supported for the XFi sound setting.

The Xtreme Music doesnt have 64MB ram but does support the ultra high setting....but the Xtreme Audio certainly does not.

You want one with gold jackplugs BUT even then you have to run in Game mode to use Ultra in BF2 or it will complain and re-set itself back to hardware (and put your sound levels back to default).... a little tray app called XFMC will help you remember tho.

I just hope you dont suffer from the XFI snap crackle and pop problems that many get.

You have to activate the GAME MODE when u wanna play games, so u can activate EAX HD and creative X-fi options.

1. Read the manaul
2. Cant find? > http://www.soundblaster.com/products/x- … ware/game/
3. Still dont know what to do: http://www.creative.com/products/soundblaster/howto/

You have to switch between modes! There is a Gamemode, Audio Creation Mode, Entertainment Mode
.
U need to activate the gamemode by clicking on "mode" or something like that.

I dont know what mode u have activated now... but i will post a screenshot of all modes all u have to do is click >mode< and there will open a pop-up and tadam u can change mode.

No bitching about buying Xfi expensive 300+ euro/dollar card ... they suck because there are ONLY usefull for people which work with audio-creating etc. (or just for people that think that many dollars = good quality , the suck)

True, zspyvin was totally off base, but your "answer" is completely wrong.  Any of the X-Fi cards work fine at  Ultra settings on BF2.

I have an x-Fi xtreme music.

It works with BF2 "Ultra High" setting and the x-Fi option in the audio menu.

It sounds amazing.

bf2_zspyvin is a retard.

Totally wrong, he just has to activate the "Game Mode" for his Soundcard and then he can use Ultra High and X-Fi in BF2.

This is correct info. It will not recoginise your card if it isn't in game mode.
Also try switching PCI slots, some mobos are fussy about which one works.

Yup. The only reason I want an uber one is because my place is filled with a bunch of electronic instruments that I don't have the equipment to properly orchestrate. And no, I want one that can double as a gamer's, not a $1500 slab of silicon.

Not true, the model the OP bought doesnt have a game mode. Its a new cheap model for the masses noticable by the use of multicolour jackplugs.

I stand corrected.  I missed that.  Extreme Audio versus Extreme Music.  I'd dump Extreme Audio.  It's not worth it...

What about the Xmod USB soundcard thing? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6829102009 Creative says it has X-Fi, but it's USB. Would I be able to do UltraHigh and EAX with that? Has anyone tried it yet? I like it because I'd be able to put it on my laptop too, but if it doesn't do the job forget about it.

yep, you got the wrong card buddy, xtreme audio is not for gaming.

for ~$110, you can now get the bells and whistles equipped gamer edition, i.e. 192KHz sample rate and onboard ram.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6829102005

I bought the xtreme music back when it was over $130, and it's squat compared to the xtreme gamer.  Humm, time to give newegg more money.
