OK heres one for all you commanders, when you join a game and you get the position of command, why do some of you insist in trying to take flags and fight, OK defending a flag is one thing, and taking a flag when no one is calling for your help is another, but its really getting on my tits when i am in a game and need uav or some supplies for a tank, or even just some basic orders, i find you in a walker half way across the map in the heart of the battle, if you intended to play Armour or infantry do so, but leave the commanding to someone who actually wants to command and help there team win, i was just in Berlin and we captured all of the flags right up to there last base, got it neutral, and what do you know a flag goes from behind us 2 flags back, surly the commander could have done a sat nav and seen these guys advancing to our flag, end result we lost, but maybe should not have, so if your in command command or don't

It’s really depending on how many player are in the game, if it’s only 10 total players.  Your team will need all the help they need.  Beside there will be more point for the commander.  In that situation I usually sit in a armor or walker, so I can stop and command during the recharge and/or take or defense flag.  If my term is fully loaded, I will stay in Titan or hide somewhere.

Good point, but take it easy, some people are still leaning.  +1 for you! :-)

If your commander wasn't giving you orders, then your SL should have instead. If you were SL, then you should have issued the orders yourself. Fuck the commander. He's not doing his job then he doesn't deserve the bonus points you would have earned for him.

I may be wrong, but I think commanders only get commander bonuses if it's from orders THEY issue.

Commanders do get a bonus for squads that follow the orders they issue. Much akin to squad leaders getting squad leader success points.

Funny that this topic came up the day after I played with an idiot commander that wouldn't use any of his assets.  He only did when I berated him over VoIP on giving UAV. He was more concerned with capping silos. The other guys were doing nothing on the ground just sitting in their AA emplacements going for their AA ribbon, while I am the only one defending the Titan. I did alright at first for the first 7 waves, but they just outnumbered me in the end... crappy last round of the night.  I'll have to knife some people to for some cathartic healing.

This has been covered in 500 threads by now but people still command and spend time driving while their SAT sleeps and their squads run in pure anarchy.

It would have been nice if EA/DICE made a pre-command tutorial that you HAD to UNLOCK before you are able to apply for command. Maybe same for SLs.  Maybe in BF3

in BF2 and 2142 I have learned to never rely on a commander. I just play like there isnt one because almost all of them are just retarded. Same with the rest of the team...

Well I kind of understand why the Commanders rarely just Command... there's ususally no one to command or they don't listen to you anyways.

Just tonight I decided to put some time in as commander. The most I ever got was 3 squads. 1 with 5 people in it (2 of which I knew), 1 squad with 3 people in it, and one squad with one person in it.

First squad had people all over the map. Only the two people I knew sticked together and followed orders.

Second squad's SL never followed orders. He'd accept them but end up doing what ever he wanted and the other two in that squad were spread out all over the map.

Third squad was just a douche bag. I'd send him an order to cap a flag he was already at or going to and he just let the order time out.

So you see when you're commander and most of the people don't squad up or don't follow orders you've got to get points some other way. So I was running around capping flag as commander. Using the assets for myself or to help the two people that were following orders. I did get complaints about it, but simply replied "I'll help you when you follow orders."

After all, that's how it's supposed to work. Squad up, follow commanders orders (if it's a reasonable commander), in return he helps you accomplish your objectives using his commander assets. Everyone works together, everybody wins.

Anyone else agree with me that the commander's job is the toughest?  Some servers, if he so much as thinks of getting into a vehicle he gets kicked.  In other servers no one listens to you and you end up doing everything yourself.  Some asshat initiates a bogus mutiny vote when you're issuing sensible orders and talking to squad leaders over VOIP.  Your Commander assets get bombed and not one retard on your team, despite your insistence that you need them to lead effectively, will go out to repair them.  The list goes on and on for bad things to happen to good commanders.

Seriously, it'll be a cold day in Hell when everyone starts working as a team.  I at least lead by example (and listen to command, interjecting if I believe we could be more valuable elsewhere) and do my job as squad leader...mucho squad points/assists/capped points.  Commander just isn't my thing unless people actually listen to the chain of command.

...on a latter note, there's an idea; a commander fed up with a particular squad leader can vote to demote him and someone else in the squad takes over who CAN do the job.

I think I had those same SLs once or twice.

I don't think I will be playing BF2142 but I am sure that command is Command wherever you do it. Try to influence people to accomplish a mission before the enemy commander hands you your ass on a platter. Sometimes all it takes is one squad who gets it, cooperates to pull the rest of the gaggle together and work as a team. They get the Lion's share of commanders support and can work miracles.

hmmmm... lol

that is a thought provoking idea, actually worthy of its own thread.

Maybe the squads would need to earn support request points by following orders. Disobey orders and you lose ability to request any kind of support, that would drive the squad members to change squads until they got a baddass SL.

It can already work that way. A commander can refuse to send support to squads that don't follow orders.

Yes and often does   but it is another thing to block them from even making a request from within the game, in the manufacturing industry they call this "pay for performance" lol

thats a really good idea you got there.

i hate when you find them running towards some tank in the wide open thinking they will destroy it with a handgun, when that happens...
