Well would somebody please tell me the story with dual core and core2duo and also centrino core2duo or what it is called. It is really confusing and I need to know what is best.
Well I have got my eyes on a laptop with 2.0 ghz core2duo and then another one with 1.8 centrino core2duo
and its pretty confusing. So please tell me how you see which is best.

okay.

dual core: two processing units (cores) in one chip.

core 2 duo (c2d) is a dual core processor, but the name of the core is core2 (lame, i know)

centrino: is intel's mobile technology. it will run cooler and is optimized for lower power usage, etc.

for a laptop, i would go with the centrino...200mhz will not make a considerable difference, and might actually run nearly as fast.

WOW.

okay I heard that you have to multiply pentium with a number to get how good a cd2 is. I know centrino is 1.5 or something like that, but since its also cd2 would centrino c2d not be better that a regular cd2. hope you understand.

would this not be easier

1 ghz of pentium 4

1ghz of dual core

1ghz of core2duo

1ghz of core2duo centrino.

which is best.

hey,

Centrino stands for the mobile tech rather to the proper name of the processor.

Between a laptop with this sticker:

https://www.intel.com/sites/corporate/pix/badges/centrino/d_76.gif

and this one,

https://www.intel.com/sites/corporate/pix/badges/core/2d_76.gif

go for the later one.

The main difference, Core 2 Duo is the new technology, so, go for that one.

That should answer your question.

actually you can get C2D w/ centrino

which is a mobile laptop based chipset nic card and something else aka less power consumption and WLnic

Core 2 duo laptop and Core duo has no difference in performance though. I saw an Article in Anandtech and they had benchies. But Core 2 Duo have 64 bit support

Actually the core is not named Core 2 Duo... that's the model.

The core is Allendale or Conroe, I believe they are.

Depending on what you're using it for and how you look at it, 200MHz makes a tremendous difference.

Yes that is correct, Core names are Allendale and Conroe, but the quad core is called Kentsfield. But the architecture is called the Core 2 Architecture. But people call it the Conroe architecture.
