I hadn't tried the Conquest maps until today and damn, they are really something. I had gotten used to BF2's combat in Karkand/Wake, where there's not many places to hide, everything is at the same height level, not much cover, etc. The only parts I found fun in Karkand were when you had to take/defend suburbs or the MEC base since the height difference means that you have to work your way there. Hotel was fun as well, but only cause it's so easy to noobtube the hell out of everyone. However there were still very few places to hide and assault from, not to mention everything was out in the open, so it got repetitive quickly.

Well these new BF 2142 maps bring gameplay to a whole new level. I didn't know what else to call the new maps, but they seem to take a "vertical" aspect, rather than a boring flatland. There's many routes to take to a single flag, you have to climb hills, ladders, stairs, there's lots of vegetation to provide cover, and the maps are full of enclosed spaces which make for great battles. I find this sort of stuff very fun since it hasn't gotten repetitive yet, and every assault seems to have different outcomes each time.

Anyway, to those BF2 players still not willing to take the leap to 2142 cause they think it's just a simple mod... trust me, it is a completely different game and it's well worth trying out. I haven't opened up BF2 in about 2 weeks and I think that says something about 2142.

Camp Gibraltar is a fine example, especially as you move down the map to the EU main base. You can run along almost every wall, attack most bases from the top and multiple sides. Mix that up with the spawn beacons and you've got yourself a winner.

Berlin is a little "flat" for my tastes though, and can turn into a bit of a Karkand. Still, the one-way cliff drop thing prevents it becoming totally tied down.

Yes, 2142 has much better infantry combat than bf2.
