So I posted a message to EA support because for some reason, I have to remap my accelerate/decelerate keys every time I re-launch BF2142.  Their answers below are almost comical. Note that it reads inverted so if you read from the bottom up it will real like a thread.

If they come up with some other dumbass comments, I'll post them here.

How can that be?  All my other controls are saved when I exit the game. In fact, all my control settings ARE saved when I exit the game. It's when I re-enter the game that they get cleared. And only TWO settings are cleared, most the others are saved. And it does NOT set them back to the default as you suggest it will...it in fact clears them out totally.

So I post a message on some gaming forums and many people have no problems with this and there are a few that do. Therefore I don't believe it can be how it was designed as the settings stick for some, not for others.

Please review the case again as I think the two answers I've been given are simply 'go away' type answers and I think as a paying customer I deserve a researched solution.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2142.

Unfortunately, the controls that you change are not saved when you exit the game. These controls are reverted back to the default controls that was set on the game.

Should you wish to reconfigure the controls to your liking, you do have to change them each and everytime your game boots up.

Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts games in the future please visit our website and review our extensive Self Help knowledgebase (http://support.ea.com)

Is this a damn canned response????  I am not using any controllers if you looked at the controls.con you'd see these are simply mouse/keyboard mappings. And only 3 settings get blanked. I have determined that my controls are wiped out after I choose a Player after the first login screen.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with Battlefield 2142.

Unfortunately, the game has no officially supported game controller since this is a first person shooting game. However, please be aware that when having difficulty with a controller working within a game, you'll want to check to make sure that the game supports the use of controllers as well as if the controller is properly calibrated within Windows.  To check if a game supports the use of a controller or other input device, you can simply look on the bottom of the packaging within the minimum requirements.  If the game does support the use of controllers, you'll want to make sure that the controller is properly calibrated because most games will look to the operating systems calibration tool to verify if the device is functioning properly.  Follow these steps to properly calibrate your controller within the operating system:

In order to properly calibrate your controller in Windows XP, please follow these:

Click on the Start button.
Click on Control Panel.
Double-click on Game Controllers.

If you are using a USB controller, your device will be listed in the Installed game controllers field with OK listed as the Status.

Note:  If the status listed next to the controller does not display an OK, there is an issue with your controller and you should contact the vendor for further support on the device.

If you are using a 15-pin Gameport controller your device will not be listed, and you will need to add it manually.

Click on the Add… button.
Select your controller from the list of available controllers.

i. Note:  If your controller is not listed, make sure that you have installed the driver disk which came with your controller.

ii. If your controller did not come with a driver disk, select a generic controller configuration which best describes your controller to get basic control functionality.

Example:  4-button gamepad

Click OK to add the controller.

i. Note:  If the status listed next to the controller does not display an OK, there is an issue with your controller and you should contact the vendor for further support on the device.

To configure either types of controllers, click on the Properties button.

You should be shown a test screen with a basic button and Axes screen.  Test all of the buttons and axes on your controller, and make sure that the buttons and axis on screen move with you.

If the controller axes are not centered or buttons are not operating properly, click on the Settings tab.

Click on the Calibrate… button.
Click Next to start the calibration.
Follow the onscreen prompts to calibrate your controller.

Note:  This is different for each type of controller, so pay close attention during this process.

Once finished, the status next to your controller should read OK, so click OK to save settings.

For some reason, when I exit the game and come back in, my key bindings for Throttle(Forward) and Decelerate(Backward) and Cycle Weapons keep getting reset to blank.

Attached is my Controls.con file but the minute I log back into the game and select my player, they get cleared out.

If you use Skype its free in North America..

You might have to wait 5 minutes to talk to someone, but its better then getting some bullshit answer, and having to wait like a day to get it

Bingo...that's the problem I have too. Silly mopes at EA...I'm sure someone will figure it out but my guess it will come from the users before EA figures it out.

Errr...Sam!!!! Doh!...thanks for nothing dude... seriously did you have this problem?

@ Lt.Victim....thanks for the advice and number...if it doesn't get solved in a week or so by the community (as I doubt EA will fix it), I may just do that.  And as my home state is a single consent state for recording conversations, I may just record the call and post it here.

LMAO! That "EA rep" should get fired for that.
