I am uninstalling SF for the second time. I am taking the game back and getting a refund. I wasted my time and money.

Twice now I have installed SF, and the new patch, and I cannot get into any server, regular BF2 OR SF!!! The game crashes to desktop everytime I try. In order to play at all I have to uninstall BOTH games and REINSTALL  regular BF2...    Sorry but EA should be reported to Consumer Affairs for faulty merchandise. Perhaps there is a way to make it work, which would undoubtedly require me to research for hours. But since I make about 50$ an hour, that would entail a net loss.

    30$ for game
- 100$ worth of my time to get working
---------
= -70$  (loss)

Sorry for the rant, but if EA thinks I should spend 2-3 hours figuring out how to make this crap work, they can send one of thier technicians over to my house to fix the damn thing. They should have fixed all the bugs before releasing this. Let me tell you, if I ran my business the way they do, I would be out of business very quick.

I have played regular BF2 for hundreds of hours with great satisfaction. Sorry that EA drops the ball now....  I will not buy another BF2 product again. There will be free mods coming soon...

I downloaded SF....installed the patch....and played on one of 1500 servers. I would have to say the issue lies in your PC since you have already tried two copies of SF.

worked flawless here, no issues following installation and patching.  in fact its more stable now than before on 2 different hardware setups.

I'm glad it works ok for you. But for the sake of the minority for whom it does not work, sorry about your luck? That is crap, considering EA is the worlds largest game publisher.

I have:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Radeon 9600XT 256MB AGP
MSI K8T Neo
1Gig DDR RAM

If there is a tweak I am not aware of someone please let me know.

Even after uninstalling BF2:SF I cannot get into ANY servers. I get a message like "You have modded content, revert to original version" or some thing like that. I have not changed or modded anything. This is total Bullshit!

Try 'same content' unchecked.

You may have to alter your graphics, if you have them on high, try medium or even low. There's lots of threads about this issue.

oh, and just as an afterthought, if you can afford it, upgrade your ram to 2Gb

And the final part to all of this..  > http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html

Follow all of the above and if you can't get it to work, have a serious look at your pc setup... you know, defrag, adware/spyware, virus, trojan, background tasks.... stuff like that. Bf2 & SF, very very resource hungry program.

i didnt think the 9600 was on the approved list of compatible video cards.  though it sounds like u get into the server browser fine just cant get your content aligned with servers'.

Also consider how you are installing the game. I've heard mutterings about installing and running from different accounts causing issues, but I don't think that's the case here.

You may also need to consider *where* it's getting installed to. If it's all c: drive snazzy, that may not be it, but the EA games aren't to friendly to people who have non-typical c: drive setups.

Also, make sure no virus shit is running while you do any of this -- its ( but un likely ) that it is changing something.

All in all, in my house we have 5 copies of sf -- 3 downloaded, 2 bought and none of them have had this trouble (and we all have wildly different machines from cutting edge to 2/3 years old.

Well, I intended to cry a river, and I succeeded!! ;D

Thanks for the input. I was finally able to get the game working yesterday. The problem was a combination of video drivers and video settings, at least I think it was. I just changed any and all possible video settings/driver combinations until it worked.

I was close to taking the game back, phew!! Without the feedback from y'all I would have. The tweak guide helped a lot, thanks.

Another happy gamer. Bet you're glad you didn't take it back now . I don't know about others, but I think it's best to wait till you get responsible replies before making a decision. , works for me

if nobody else mentioned it. you need to re-set up your video settings because it defaulted them to a higher standard that is out of the range of alot of price conciencous gamers w/ lower end video cards like myself. i had to fix all my video stuff and install a new update for my drivers. the same problem happened with a bunch of the guys in my clan. and they all fixed the problem by following suit and updating their software
