I've made bad PC game purchases before but I'd have to say getting 2142 takes the cake, its that bad. That's why I still play bf2.
Still playing BF2 because I want to complete the game; getting all the awards and preferably getting up to 3 star general. After that I might consider buying 2142 IF EA managed to get most of the bugs out after 64 patches or something...

Battlefield 2 is definatly the better game. Although I do like playing both, but 2142 its starting to get old fast for me..

EA and DICE don't deserve my, or anyone else's, money. They screwed with BF2 to the point of pissing me off. I'll never buy another EA product again.... except for Crysis.

Because i totally LOVE BF² and its beside UT99, Max Payne 1 and RTCW one of the best games I´ve ever played and just CANT play another game.
You are wrong a mod is just few changes in a game with original weapons and so. A Full conversion is a game wich changed everything and that what BF2142 has done. Never really seen Titan mode before.Flonster wrote:

How many of the old models did you see in BF2142? NONE, did you see any old maps in B2142? NO, Did BF2 had 40unlocks? No, How many old weapons did you see in BF2142? None upset a weapon called scar 11.
They made new sounds and new animations to all the soldiers. The only thing that wasn't really changed was the game style. But hey if you gonna go by that every game that has Death match, capture the flag, and team death match should then been called mod by the original game that had DM CTF or T DM. Its not a mod, you guys are wrong about this.
Then about wow moment, the only time i done it is when I first saw Half Life 2 and Oblivion other than that nope. I don't really care about grafic the only thing i care about is gameplay.

bf2 was the first online game i played.
i got 2142 from ea downloader on release day.
i have about 40 somthing hours on 2142.
the simple fact is, 2142 is not as good as bf2.

A mod is a game that need setup files from the original game, BF2142 runs on it owns files not BF2. The only thing it has from BF2 is the engine and calling it a mod just for that is wrong

BF2142 does run on it's own files, or it would be a pretty shocking stand alone game if it needed them from another game. However I doubt there is a massive deal of difference between the core system of either game. I think the massively short dev time for 2142 suggests that most of the work was done already and adapted from BF2. or, dare I say it, 'modded'.

A game is made up of a lot more than maps models and animations. For all the things they remade visually (which may of course still have been made from the same foundation as the counterparts in BF2) there could equally be the same amount of 'off the shelf' code used in either game. For this deadline of impending QuakeWars, wouldn't that enourage you to salvage coding routines from something DICE already had instead of writing from complete scratch? I am of the beliefe that 2 years is not enough time for a modern game to be written completely from a clean scrap of paper. Even if you do have 70 people doing it.

From initial concept art to final release, lot longer than 2 years; Oblivion, Half Life 2, Stalker (LOL) for a few. The sports games, you only know when they are released, you don't know when each title was conceived, plus, does a lot really change other than the players on each official team between FIFA '05 and FIFA '06?

Hehe, that's fucking news to me. My BF2 copy is over a year old and they still don't even have a reliable server browser... I'm not buying 2142 until I hear that they've fixed most of these huge statpadding bugs. Apparently there's the hack where people change seats in a hovercraft over a titan and you get titan drop points (or whatever they're called). That means the game is coded poorly because the coders assumed that if you changed out of your seat in the hovercraft, you were exiting it. As far as whether or not 2142 is a mod or not, you're arguing semantics. You think they've done enough work to it to justify calling it a new game. I honestly think the only thing they've done to it that's significantly different is Titan mode (which I honestly liked a lot during the beta). Oh, they made new animations and graphics? Big fucking deal, the POE team made new graphics, and they weren't paid for it. I personally don't think there's enough that's significantly different about 2142 to call it much more than a mod.
Why haven't I bought 2142? From everything I've read about it, 2142 is buggy as shit and all people do is statpad in the Titan guns or hovercrafts. If they come out with a patch that fixes those things, I may give it a try.
