As far as whether or not 2142 is a mod or not, you're arguing semantics. You think they've done enough work to it to justify calling it a new game. I honestly think the only thing they've done to it that's significantly different is Titan mode (which I honestly liked a lot during the beta). Oh, they made new animations and graphics? Big fucking deal, the POE team made new graphics, and they weren't paid for it. I personally don't think there's enough that's significantly different about 2142 to call it much more than a mod.
Why haven't I bought 2142? From everything I've read about it, 2142 is buggy as shit and all people do is statpad in the Titan guns or hovercrafts. If they come out with a patch that fixes those things, I may give it a try.
Not everyone does it rarely see it, and been playing for a long time.

My Roommate got 2142, and i really think it sucks, So i will keep playing bf2.
Didn't need anymore headaches. Stick with Company of Heroes and Vanilla.
I dont really like futuristic games.

It seems dumbed down and slow for some reason. Titan mode is so boring the first 15 minutes. Not sure what is but something is just missing from BF2142.

Playing Conquest all the time isn't really fun want a different gamemode for once and Titan sure is fun.

I think 2142 is going down the drain already, as on my XFire list I used to have tins of people playing it, now it's just BF2 again, even Towelly has pretty much given up with 2142.
EA Did a horrible job patching and making BF2 a Smooth game to play, It still Crashes to Desktop at Random times.
So EA will never get anouther Penny outa me for a Battlefield game. I quit after Special Forces, Thoes Booster Packs can Kiss my Dick.
BF2142 is probably most stable but I don't wanna have to learn a whole new game if I am already a BF2 Master.

Did not trust EA to produce a working game.
Played a bit of 2142 an the gameplay is just not as good as bf2, although the points system (when its not being abused) does seem to be quite team orientated compared to BF2.
I will be waiting for ET Quake wars, but will not be ditching BF2 at least I know what the guns are supposed to do in that.

Didn't like it, simple as that. Played beta then the demo, just didnt do it for me.
I'm not knocking it, some people love it, good for them.
All my mates bought it despite my views, they played it to death for a while and i nearlly had to buy under pressure, now they're all back playing BF2. I guessing a lot people will eventually switch back to BF2.
Also, I think Point Of Existence is a better mod.

There are more then enough Sci Fi Mech games.
I just started playing BF2 a couple of months ago. I want to get as much out of it as I can (it's too hard to find a good game these days). And with EF/AF being released this month on DVD, I'll be playing even more.
I do look forward to playing 2142 EVENTUALLY, but I'll wait a few months and let them get a few patches out and maybe get it when the price drops.

Im tired of giving EA my money and im not going to give them 50 bucks for a mod with some fancy guns. I like the idea of modern combat but a sci-fi shooter just don't apeal to me. Maby ill get quake wars.

I feel more immersed because of the real guns and vehicles. I also just find it more enjoyable than 2142. Lots of awards for me to hound out still, same with ranks
2142 is futuristic. I hate futuristic games. End.
BF2142 isn't my type of game, It's too futuristic... I'm more into modern combat games like BF2.
