I've been wondering what the hell is wrong here, if there is something. This just doesn't look right.

Why is my CPU usage at 35% and above when I have nothing but AIM running?

Specs:

AMD 3800+ Dual Core 2.0ghz NOT overclocked
2gig Corsair Valueselect DDR2 RAM
ATI AIW X800 GPU
Forton Source 400 Watt PSU
Western Digital 320gig SATA Harddrive 16mb Cache
Western Digital 200 gig IDE Harddrive 8 mb Cache (Backup only)

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Nah man. lol. I run Spybot S&D twice or three times a week.

I use Diskeeper weekly...and I just reformatted less than a month ago too. Everything seems normal...but I don't know for sure.

Arite, so after running Windows Defender, Spybot S&D, and Adaware...

Nothing, nada, zilch. Yet, I'm still at around 30-45% CPU usage at all times. And when I open anything it shoots to 100% (yes, I know it's supposed to do this) but it stays there for around 15 seconds even after whatever it was I loaded...finished loading.

I'm lost here people...

Try unplugging your cd rom and see if the same thing happens. I've seen cd roms make computers go buggy for no apparent reason.

Go View > Options > CPU Time and see what's been using the CPU the longest?

Edit:
Maybe a Service running flat out? Check for anything unusual there and run Process Explorer (SysInternals) see if it shows up there..

Try downloading and running HijackThis. It'll show processes not listed on Task Manager.
Also, try King_County_Downy's advice about unplugging the CD-ROM.

Why do people ALWAYS think porn gives you viruses... just use torrents or limewire.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll try unplugging my CD ROM and see what that does.

And I use Utorren for my porn.

i had the same problem once. are you connected to the internet when it runs at 40-50%?

if so, disable the internet and see if it runs normal. if it runs normal wiht the internet turned off, check with your ISP.
