I saw someone else point this out, so I tried it and it worked fine. As soon as it kicks in the Titan destruction video, hit the Esc button and go to your HUD. You're still in the game, but since the video isn't being displayed you avoid the conflict and won't get crashed to the desktop. After a few seconds when the video is done runing, it took me right back into the game at the stats page without even hitting Esc again.
Best solution is still serverside: only one round per map. It doesn't even matter if the same map is placed several times after another in the rotation, it just shouldn't play more than one round on that map without reloading.

this worked for me:
Crash to Desktop Fix
For the number of people who are experiencing crashes to the desktop after a round ends, here is a solution that has worked for many people. Do realize though that this isn't promised to fix the problem.
Please delete your cache in the My Documents\Battlefield 2142\mods folder and the file icontent.cache. This may help some and NVIDIA driver version 91.31 is confirmed to run with out crashing ql.after clearing your cache. Please roll back to version 91.31.
even tho im running on ATI it still worked for me.

Is that safe to do? Can anyone back this up.
It's fine, these are just files that get generated at the start-up so they will be re-generated if you have deleted them but hopefully this will fix the crashes. Is that safe to do? Can anyone back this up.
and if you go to other battlefield 2142 related forums their has been several posts saying to get away from 91.31.
naah all this talk about drivers and "solutions" is mostly crap.
Only sure way is to set your server, or play on servers that have one round per map. Since loading is very fast in 2142 that shouldnt be a problem. I think all the official EA servers are set that way.
