I think the fx70 family has alot of potential...I really hope that amd will kick intel's ass soon cause I don't really like intel...even though it is better for the time being.

yeah but for alot of them it does better than intel and is also cheaper by half the price of intel's quad core... so in my opinion it is better. Most cause I  like AMD

You forgot the fact you need to buy 2 FX70's to run the quad core system... Read the whole article, 4x4 is overpriced and it uses more power...

And then you have to buy a $400 mobo...

Just goes to show that the best bang for you buck is with a $150 opteron 165 overclocked up to FX 62 speeds.

Why wasn't it tested with 3D Mark?

No the fx70 series has no potential

This solution was brought by amd only to stop its failure in every benchs. Its overpriced, drain lots of power and has no potential.

If you decide to go for the fx70 series, you are stuck with a mobo thats got 2 socket F which sucks. This mobo may only run 4 types or cpu at this moment, and as soon as amd find how to incorporate 4 cores in the same cpu, they will be back on socket am2+, or maybe stay on Socket F, but you will still need to buy 2 x quad cores to make it work (mobos that has 2 socket F can only run with 2 cpu...) for a total of 8 cores and this, for a million of bucks.

Buy a 400$ mobo and be obligated to buy 2 cpu for the rest of the mobo's life, IF and IF amd keeps releasing new Socket F cpu's ? no...

so no, this has no potential, more a proof of concept imo.

It's the truth.

Poor old AMD

I sold my FX62, mobo and memory to a buddy before xmas..... used the money to put towards an X6800, mobo and mem......my AMD days are behind me!

I just noticed his link was to memory floating performance and compared to the E6600 and not the X6800 for QX6800.

I pity AMD. Their new flagship can in no way 'pwn' the QX6700. And Intel has promised that the QX6700 (and also the X6800, btw.) are far behind their maximum capabilities - which we know from several overclockers.

I also pity those AMD freaks that are willing to spend more money for less value just because it's AMD and it's not 'mainstream' Intel. Hell, AMD doesn't produce the better processors anymore, and they're also quite a big company that gives a [insert bad word here] about their customers as long as they earn enough money themselves...

The 2 cpu's on 1 mobo is work in progress. In my opinion amd should do a 2x 256 L1 and 2x 1mb L2 processor. The biggest issue with the processor is heat and power. 400+watts at idle and close if not over 600watts at load and then adding all of the other goodies would be easy 1000-1500watts  and dont even think about sli or crossfire without buying a 2000watt power supply. That also means that the system needs to be watercooled cause theres no way fitting 5-7fans to keep a temp of under 60C without making a jungle in your case. Performance to watts used my FX-55 beats it badly.
