Alright, since DX10 won't be coming out for laptops for a while I might as well settle for a good gaming laptop right now. I'd rather not go without BF2 or 2142 or CSS at my dad's apartment, so I think I'll settle for a laptop.

Now then, here are the requirements I can think of (it's late and I'm tired so I'm sure I'll edit stuff in tomorrow)

-Can run games like BF2, 2142, CS:S on all high with ease

-Has 802.11g support (would be surprised to find a laptop without that actually)

-Preferrably a 17" screen, although I doubt a powerhouse laptop would have anything less...

-Core 2 Duo

-Will be able to run future games such as Crysis and Alan Wake on very nice graphics with ease (I'm guessing the highest on those would utilize DX10, which laptops don't have)

-Not too expensive, though I doubt any of these things will go for less than 2K

-Will run Vista Home Premium with ease... an express upgrade thing would be nice, but I won't mind getting it in stores since I like those snazzy boxes it comes in

-No preference on ATi or nVidia, whichever will kick more ass

I've been looking around, so far I've looked at Dell and Alienware. Alienwares, yeah I know the stories behind them. But they do seem good. Dell's XPS laptops also seem good (on their site, the middle one I'm talking about... not that huge, desktop-esque thing nor that tiny, not-really-a-gaming-laptop thing), albeit pricy. I want a reputable, solid brand (Dell I know has improved in recent years, if their prices can be justified I'll get one of theirs). It'd be nice if the case isn't too cheesy (e.g., the XPS case and Alien case are kinda cheesy IMO), but that isnt a huge factor.

All help is appreciated

:S

OT:

Hurricane, it wouldn't be wise to buy from Alienware because they are overpriced sons of bitches.
I would either recommend XPS or the latest Inspiron.

Nvm, same with XPS. They seem overpriced too.

Get this Inspiron and customize with atleast a 7900 GS and customize it to 2 GB until you reach a hefty price of $2000 (assuming that is your budget.)

EDIT: This laptop seems pretty good, exactly the same one my bro has, and it can run almost any shit you throw at it.

I have a a Amilo Fujitsu laptop,it kicks some serious ass.

They are pretty cheap, and can get them with 2gib of ram and a nice gfx card.
The best thing about then is the clearview screen, just like a normal moniter screen instead of the the dodgy normal laptop screen.

The one thing I don't trust with laptops is their power supply. Because unless they can output up-to 500Watts, it will freeze up on Crysis.

Uh...

Isn't it the Components that eats power, not the game..

Sure the Application is demanding, but that just means that the battery will go down faster, but hes probably gonna plug it in anyway.

But you still got the problem of LCD monitor, speakers, & keyboard, wires, surge protector

With a laptop all you need is a surge protector, and headphones.

It is the components that use the volts, but they aren't always using their respective maximum amount at any given time, they only use the most when they are being taxed. So a demanding game like Crysis will tax the hardware, making it work to its max settings using more power, and if there isn't enough then the hardware will not operate correctly and generate errors.

Agreed, Area-51 m9750 expected end of Q1 2007 for just under $2,000.

Two 7950GTX in SLI should conquer all bar the 8 series boys :\

Edit:  Probably starting at $2,000 actually but it is being called the worlds most powerful 17'' so you would expect that.

Area-51 m9750 laptop is actually the world's "most powerful 17-inch system," there's no denying that the specs are plenty hot. The laptop features SLI NVIDIA graphics, Core 2 Duo processors, a Blu-ray optical drive, dual HDD up to 200GB per and up to 2GB of dual-channel DDR2 667MHz RAM. That 17-inch monitor features an eyesight bustin' 1920 x 1200 resolution

Blu ray MUST be an option surely.......

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/r05/ri05.asp  <<<< Go here they have lots of laptops to choose from, and you can customize them for your liking. I bought a computer from here a couple of years ago, they are a really reliable company to buy from and there not too exspensive. Check it out!
