I think some of the problems stem from the fact that before 9/11, being in the military was largely a way for people who came from schools like me to half-ass high school and still get into college with the same benefits that people like me, who worked my ass off for the scholarships and grades that I have. Then, 9/11 comes along, and suddenly the military isn't so great a job anymore, cause now you actually stand a decent chance of getting your ass killed. I know for a fact that from my school for a long time there were complete losers signing up for the military just to reap all the benefits that it offers and get a job much better than they could have gotten with their high school effort. These are the kind of people the military is fielding, its not like the commercials were you see rich suburban kids talking to their parents like their gonna actually have a problem affording college. It's people who come from where I came from, who lived in poverty their entire life and since they screwed around in high school, all they had left was the military. And now, suddenly they realize that they can actually get killed. These people (I'm not saying everyone, but the people I'm describing, and granted boot camp probably reforms some of them) don't care about America and what they are doing over there. They just wanted free shit from the government, like they've gotten their entire lives, stupid kids who didn't realize that the reason they get all this nice stuff is cause they could actually die.
