When you say that you shot them in the head but someone else killed them and you got a kill assist? Yeah... uh... you didn't shoot them in the head.
Sniper rifles in BF2 should never ever be made one shot kill. It's be like GL problems times 1000. Sure there are some imperfections*, but the Sniper rifle isn't the only gun. What about pistols; you have to shoot someone twice in the face before they'll die. I'm pretty sure that one bullet would normally do the trick. I may be mistaken of course, I havn't actually tried it.
A one-shot kill weapon has proven to be an annoyance - look at the GLs. One-shot-kill sniper-rifles would be worse, as you get more ammo, re-loading is faster, it has a scope, you don't have to worry about a parabolaic arch and it would take all the skill out of sniping. Imagine just running around a corner to be killed in one shot from a sniper at point blank. That is not what snipers do, but would be seriously exploited ingame. Sure being a Sniper is a hard job, it is for people who are talented and/or practised. You can't simply pick up a sniper kit and expect to be good.
Good news though, in the upcoming patch they will be improving the accuracy of the rifles, probably meaning that the bullets will no longer fly sideways but only be effected by bullet drop and target movement, like real sniper rifles are, (thankfully wind direction air temperature and air pressure don't effect snipers ingame, that would just be too damn hard.)
So I close by saying, fuck the real world. I have fun when I get a skilled headshot. A guy at full health dies with one shot because I used my skill to plant it there. I don't care if the real M95 is a one hit kill weapon, or that the guy I hit in the torso carries on running. It'd be an annoyance to me in game when I'm trying to have fun, that I limp everytime someone shoots me in the leg, or I bend over and cough blood if I'm shot. That's real world too, but would take away the fun of something that is a game.
Edit: And if you're shooting them 3 or 4 times with an M95, or M24, they're either healing themselves fast as you shoot them in the torso, or you hit them once and miss the rest of the time. If neither is the case, the M24 and M95 do take at most two hits to take down anyone.
*Other innacuracy's include.
- Defribulators that bring people back from the dead. People shot in the head or heart arn't going to be brought back by an electric shock.
- Wrenches fixing everything, even broken planks of wood, or explosion holes. No-one's that good.
- Medic bags that heal everything, simply by absorbing into a soldier's shoe.
- Entering veichles, turning on and are ready to drive in less than a second. Samegoes for getting out.
- The Grenade Launches exploding as soon as they leave the tube. Grenades have a fuse to make sure the firer isn't hurt.
- C4 packs being used as grenades. That much C4 would wipe out a lot of a map. One of those cubes would probably wipe out those two unfinished buildings in Sharqui to put things in perspective.
- A driver in a tank being able to repair an APC that is near to him. same goes for medics and suppot guys doing the same thing.
- Shooting a wall with a tank round will generally bring the wall down, or at least damage them. Same goes for C4, AT rockets, TOWs, and numerous other explosives.
- .50 cal sniper bulelts don't kill people in one shot, or at least take off a leg or arm or something.
I could go on for ages. As you can see, none of these innacuracies matter, and having them actually adds to the fun of the gaming experience.
Hell, I didn't think I'd write so much...
