how do you know its cappable? there could be a mass of infantry ready to cap your own self.

Well this thread at least reveals that the one sure way that everyone decides if the comander is a retard is if, in the SLs opinion, they get told to go further than the next cap point.  How the hell do commanders manage with thinking like that?  Is it any wonder that they just shut up and play with the uav?
If the commander can see a sizeable force at the closest CP, and orders them to hit one a little further on that is unguarded - then it makes sense. Its basic tactics and common sense.

I always do that when SL, and commander too (informing the SL's that it is unguarded of course).
If you can cap flags, then thats a step towards winning (and more points). There is no point getting bogged down in a war of attrition between 2 flags if your teams tickets are already bleeding.
I just did this on IO Warlord for 6 rounds, and won all 6 as a result of me and my squad capping flags all round - taking mostly the unprotected ones, especially as SAS.

For me, I'm only in a squad because I need it to get ribbons and badges. A 100 hours of being a squad member takes a really long time to get. So when I get commands, I'm usually far away from the squad so I just click deny. This was smart for EA to do because if we want certain medals, they force us to work as a team! I had 30 hours of lone wolf before I realized i needed commander and team minutes. Don't get me wrong, I can be a team player very well....but seeing how i'm not in a clan and just in a pub, I rather be accountable for myself and  not watch someone else's hide.
You're a big part of the reason pubbing sucks sometimes.  Squadplay is so important.  Sure, if your squad leader is a retard, you should find a new squad, and if everyone on your team is just running around without helping each other, there's nothing you can do.  But most of the time when I'm pubbing, there are one or two squads that are really working well together and you make such a huge difference for the team.  You also get more points that way.  It drives me crazy to have 3 other good team players in my squad and then see two stupid green dots halfway across the map.

there's nothing wrong with being asocial. I don't mind. There are a lot of rounds where all I do is defend a key flag so I know im not a bad team player.

If I have a n00b commander who also happens to give me stupid orders I press page down and I make my own orders.  However, I will trust a high ranking commander most of the time, because sometimes they surprise me with their grreat ideas.

Unless you know your team can grind them down to a narrow victory. Most games on Karkand degenerate into that.

I almost always accept. I may not follow right away though if I'm far away or if the commander is an idiot and there are people that are closer or better suited to doing the job. Most of the time though, I'll accept it, then change my command to whatever I was doing before and tell him I'll get back to him

As commander though, I don't really command each and every squad unless they ask me to, or if there's a squad near a base that's about to get taken over. Most of the time, my team seems to be able to do fine teamwork.

Relevent to the Poll.

More often than not, I accept the command.

If we are in the middle of something, I'll finish what we're doing before accepting the command (to avoid confusion).  If the command times out before we finish, I'll replace the command myself.

If I don't feel the command is a sound one, I'll try to discuss it with the commander over VoiP.  Who knows, maybe one of us has a better understanding of what is going on that the other hasn't noticed?

Of course, every once in a while you'll run into an asshole for a SL or commander, and there's nothing much you can do other than to ignore them, or deny all their orders.

Interesting Story:

I was SL on Warlord, and I'd just sent an order to go from the Security Checkpoint to the Insurgent Hideout, after my squad had looped around to take the Palace flags, and Security CP.

No sooner than after I made the command (we were also in a small firefight to defend the Security CP) the commander sends me a command to attack the Plaza (which was our flag), followed up about a second later with a "Do as your ordered soldier" with the flag turning neutral, and about two to three seconds later where the flag was taken, and the commander stating a "You are the worst squad... blah, blah, blah, blah".

All the while, I knew that the Mosque had been taken, was next on the list, and closer.

So, I'm thinking... "WTF?!"  My squad mates are saying "WTF?" over the VoiP, and the commander drops a UAV over the Plaza to show about 10-12 enemies sitting there (versus my 5 person squad).

Needless to say, I say to my squadmates over VoiP, "we've got a retarded commander," and "we're gonna take the Mosque, because just about every other enemy is sitting at the Plaza."

The funniest part about the whole situation was the commander putting in the command, following it up with a do as your ordered, and then quickly followed up with a rebuke all in the time it would have taken us to barely leave the Security Checkpoint area, let alone crossing half of the map.

Talk about wanting Miracle Workers.

Needless to say, I denied his next two orders, and he didn't send anything else afterwards.
