I currently have a 74GB WD Raptor. I have a 300GB media but there is no OS installed on it and my primary drive (the Raptor) is full.

Should I..

A) Buy another exact model 74GB Raptor and RAID0 them together
B) Sell my 74GB and get a 150GB WD Raptor

Experienced techies to answer this only please, as I'll assume they know the most about RAIDing drives. I am aware of RAID0 risks.

Thanks. Haven't put a poll up because well.. I clicked 'Make a new Thread' and am too lazy to change.

RAID it.

It might be slighty problematic since your disk is full. But if your other option is to sell the drive and replace it I assume you can backup any important data on the drive easily anyway.

There aren't a lot of risks with RAID0 and you tend to get better speeds where it counts having two normal drives striped than you do from a single Raptor. Since you are using Raptors it seems strange that you don't have a RAID setup anyway - runnning single Raptors is, in my opinion, a waste of money - they are great drives, but two worse drives in a striped array will be faster for most things (sustained transfer rate at least) and cost a lot less per GB.

get the 150GB Raptor

it may sound strange but the 74GB's are actually slower as they use older technology

the 150GB would be much better

you could keep the 74GB for other things like movies games pr0n ect

RAID 0+1 1, 0 ect

The difference in speed between the 74GB and 150GB Raptors is minimal (the 150s are better, but not by much). The 36GB ones were much slower and less reliable though.

You also have to remember that selling one drive won't get you the full value of a new one, so a 150GB Raptor is, in this instance, a more expensive option.

If you're worried about speed, which since you're using Raptors I assume you are, RAID them. You'll notice massive performance boosts on things like Windows startup times and game loading times.
