But then again, so will DX10 video cards.frankyman_88 wrote:
I have vista home premium and latest nivdia 100.65 display drivers, however gaming on vista is for me a chore; alt-tab and the screen immediately turns to diagonal lines of varying green and blue. This also happens if i try to watch any movies at all. If anyone has any tips please advise. Other than that, vista is great for gaming, on my 7900gt and 2gb RAM the performance difference was a few 3dmarks and not noticeable at all. It will be vital for DX10 games.
If you are buying a new pc u should definately get a DX10 capable video card, eg 8800 or 8600 when they are released. Otherwise there is no point buying vistanamsdrawkcaB wrote:
I post this becuase im getting a new rig just before may, so i wanna make sure that its alright for gaming.
Its gonna be something like:
2gig RAM
7900 GS OR 7600 GS
Inter core duo 2
cant remember motherboard.
You should easily be OK, 2GB RAM will be a big help. Try to get semi decent good quality RAM.namsdrawkcaB wrote:

and yes, they are too unless the games support DX9 as well, which is unlikely. Oh well, i am still going to lash out on a compatible card, even though they may be very priceysome_random_panda wrote:

There won't be any exclusively DX10 games released for a good few years yet. All DX10 games schedueled for release anytime soon also incluse DX9 render paths and will be playable in XP using DX9c or in Vista using DX9L (or whatever new name they've come up with for it, might be DX9X or something). You will need DX10 hardware to get the most from these modern games, but it won't be essential to run them.frankyman_88 wrote:

yeh what he said, SP 1 etc...=Karma-Kills= wrote:
There is a slight performance decrease in most of todays games as the drivers arent here atm. But in the future it should improve drastically.
I was wondering about that. What's the precedent for previous versions of DX? Was there overlap period of games that supported more than one version on DX when DX9 came out? If so, I'd imagine my DX9 card will be OK for a few years yet (fingers crossed). I've just ordered a new system with an x1950 card... But I also wonder if there are other aspects of Vista that will be utilised in new games which will make Vista the min reqirement...?Bertster7 wrote:

That said, if building a system in May then an 8600 Ultra would be the best way to go.

I think that 2 GTS are more expensive than 1GTX.....but the performance will be better(not so much but better)...M.O.A.B wrote:
I was thinking of getting an 8800 GTS sli card at some point, is this a good card, considering it is a DX10 card. I don't really have the money or want to spend the amount of money needed for a 8800 GTX.
Your system should load maps in seconds on max settings. Its about 85-90% Os and the rest Nvidia drivers. Consider this you basically upgrade your computer by downgrading to XP Os.=[AUT]-[phoenix]= wrote:
i have Vista business 64Bit and i think the performance is terrible.....it takes me abuot 5-10minutes to load a map and then it laggs for about another 5minutes....
And i think this could be a RAM problem....or not!
MY system:
C2D E6600 @3Ghz
Asus P5N32 E SLI
2GB OCZ REAPER 1066
500GB Harddrive
GeForce EVGA 8800GTX
Watercooled!
3D mark 2006 result: about 13.000marks
And the driver problems are horrible you must download all your drivers becouse most are not supportet by 64Bit
