Well i have a 7600GS with 1 gig of ram and an AMD Athlon 64+ 3700 proccesor.

I came home from school turned it on and i started up a game. 2 minutes later it froze. I smelt a weird smell in the air and looked inside. Found my video card at a really high temperature. High enough to burn your hand if you held it on. Does anyone know what caused this? It's only done it once and theres no dust, i clean it reguarly, and i dont know what caused it.

Also, when i let it cool for a few hours i restarted my computer and it started to find everything really slowly like
1024 RAM .... Ok
Master CD ROM
Slave CD ROM

Then it took 1-2 minutes to find my hard drive or anything else. After it got past this it would say something along the line of, Your computer was not started succesfully please choose a configuration to start it as, so i do it restarts and it goes back to it. If im lucky it will say, Select proper boot device and restart computer. I even go Press Ctrl + Alt + del to restart computer.

Any Idea's?

Sounds like time for a new motherboard.
And maybe the fan on your card is stuffed.

Hmm...did you do any overclocking?

I can only throw up ideas, as I'm not looking at the computer itself.

motherboard is fine and what do u mean by my fan is stuffed? I remember my fan on the card would click and id have to press on the fan alittle to get it to stop.

And i didnt over clock anything either. Dont wanna risk it. You ask the questions and ill tell u anything.

Check everything.  Maybe (hopefully), something's got a bad connection or something simple.

Or you could try reinstalling windows.  (I take no liability from any problems encountered in doing this, better not unless you know your registry's corrupted).

Sounds like the fan died. Had something similar happen on a Vantec Iceberq, one of the blades cracked and would make a buzzing sound followed by the fan jamming up. If yours is under warranty contact the manufacturer. Or you could just replace the fan yourself.

Get a new 8800GTX

But I don't know how that would affect the start up time of the computer.

Ok guys i fixed the fan and its running smooth now. But i still have the problem of the computer not wanting to start up each time i want it too. It will say that its has shut down a wrong way and ask me to pick a configuration to start it up with. Theres only one choice so i select it and go on. When it restarts it comes back to the same screen. If im lucky it will work.
