Just be glad the artlllery can't be put into a sustained rate of fire and come down continuously on your ass. Artillery in the real world levels towns and demolishes infantry and armor. If the developers took thier "material penetration" to heart, there would no escaping the rain of pain.
I believe that the commander should be able to choose the type of round they want to use instead of being limited to HE(which has a killing radius of 50m that isn't implemented in-game). There have been plenty of times I wish I could have rained a few DPICM rounds on some unsuspecting MEC fools and cleared out enemy resistance for the grunts.
It's too bad the guns aren't crewed, as they should be. There is no automated M 777 that I'm aware of. Every arty battery I served in had crew served weapons ready to rock the socks off any idiot that even tried to mess with us. But then, the real Marine Corps is coordinated and disciplined, it would be hell trying to get anyone to crew a weapon in this game.
I believe the arty system should be revised, not nerfed or removed. Artillery is the grunt's 911 call, and the King of Battle.
Oorah.
