I will finally boot up and install windows in a "new" pc.

Full Tower Antec Case
eVGA nForce 590 SLi motherboard
eVGA GeForce 7950 GT KO 512mb
Crucial DDR2 PC2 8000  2 GB 2x1 GB sticks
AMD Athlon XP 62 X2 5000+ 2.6 Ghz Dual Core
Sound Blaster 24 Bit 7.1
80 GB Harddrive IDE (only old part besides case)
Liteon DVD +/- R/RW burner 20x
500w Rosewill PSU
4 80mm Case Fans
1 Blue cold Cathone Light (maybe getting a green)
Windows XP home Pro

The last parts are on their way here, and I had to sacrafice some quality (8800 GT and a better PSU) due to being laid off recently.   Will post pics of the rig once its up and running.  I took hours to full take apart the case clean and dust it.  Mounted the orginal mobo and went to put in the CPU when I noticed I had gotten a AM2 cpu and 939 mobo (the X2 series runs on both sockets) so I RMA'd the mobo and had to change from my previous 184 pin RAM to some 240 pin RAM.  That cost me a pretty penny, so I thought I would delay some more, but I got some birthday cash in and started ordering some more parts.  I bought a new mobo on my way back from an A's game, ordered the new DVD drive that night, and noticed I couldn't power the mobo with my orginal 500w PSU so I RMA'd it last night and ordered a new one that can.  Once it arrives I just need to plug in the power and start it up with my windows CD in the drive.

Of course this brings up the usual question of newbieness.  With a new chipset mobo my harddrive and windows won't recognize it and force me to reformat the drive correct?

Get a new PSU. I don't care what you say, from your earlier threads I gathered (me included) that your PSU is a rare-known brand and not as good.

500W is not enough for due upgrades, and the Rosewill probably doesn't perform as good as more popular brands.

Looks like a nice spec. I don't *think* that you should need to reinstall, however M$ is a bit funny about stuff like that, so you never know.

Drop that 80GB HD as if it were your ex.  With all the other things on your rig, the HD will fail you.  Get a new perpendicular drive.

As for your question, new MB and GPU, you are better off with a clean install.  You don't have to, but it'll save you a few headaches trying to uninstall "old" drivers.

Nice computer man.  That will run bf2 and 2142 like water.

However, 2142 is due to go DX10 (according to tomshardware anyways).  Do you play 2 or 2142?

looks like a killer. dont worry about your psu its fine. Ive used rosewill for years with no problems. my rosewill outlasted and outperformed my ocz gamestream. Ive rma'd 2 of them. you shouldn't have to reformat just install the drivers on your mobo disk. you will probally have some old unused drivers for your old set up. but it is always best to do a clean install of the OS. one question why use a 7950 when you could do a 8800 gts or 2 8600's for about the same price and you would be dx10 ready when and if you go vista. and your hard drive will get you by for now but you should look for something better in the future.(sata with perpendicular recording) but other than that it looks good.
my specs
amd fx 60 dual core @ 2.6 (939 Socket)
4 gigs corsair xms pro c2
2 seagate 250 gb hard drives running in raid 0
Asus a8n32-sli deluxe mobo
roswill 600 watt modular psu
2 xfx 7900gs ( soon to be an 8800gtx)
M-audio delta 1010Lt sound card ( i need it for my home recording studio)
cooler master stacker case
lite-on sata DVD-ROM
samsung sata cdrw-dvdrw drive
3 aero cool 120 mm fans
3 aero cool 80 mm fans
xp pro
vista ultimate un opened on the desk

Once i get a new job I am going for a new Harddrive, video and psu.  But I didn't have the money for any of it atm.  $$$ is the key to all lol, thanks for all your help on this gentlemen.  I have taken it to heart, well most of it, the only thing I haven't done is replace some of the parts now because I plan on a massive upgrade again in the fall or the when the next line of GPU's come out. (getting a dx10 card then due to a hopefully drop in price)

The pc2 8000 cost me a pretty penny at about 230 but it has a 50 dollar rebate atm.  thats after a 50 off instant on newegg. so orginally it was 280 to 290.  the 7950 GT KO was 229 with a mail in rebate, and I didn't want to run two 8600 in SLi because frankly it intimated me, this is my first build in about two years so I am keeping it fairly simple.

Oh, on another note, I took the HD in to a friend's computer shop to hook it up to one their computers to test and see if it still ran.  It wouldn't boot up normal but bio's recognized it and the partitions.  The only reason why I don't want to reformat is it has the following installed and it takes a while:

BF1942 (all but last expansions and the DC mod)
BF:v
BF:2
Ghost Recon (all expansions)
Hitman 2
Rainbow 6: 3
an MMO i play once in a while (roughly 5 gbs by now i think)
and a Windows Service Pack 2

but i think I am just going to do a clean install so that everything comes up nice and clean. Although I really need to remember how to partition the drive again lol.

edit: the Hard drive stuff at the end

She's up and running.  The single biggest computer scare for me is always the first boot on a costum case but she came right up and said hello, I have dual monitor running on her (to test my old CRT which is failing, its not my old PC), and that came up.  I am reinstalling windows and hoping I can find my PS/2 mouse sometime in the next 38 minutes.  Otherwise I might run down to walmart and buy one when I get a new usb keyboard.

out of everything the only problem I have are that my front fans are blowing backwards but the side of the case is off so it's just drawing in air from the side and sending it front and back.

edit: the only problem update

I dont get it... Most of the people who have these so called "AWESOME COMPUTERS" are supposed to be skilled at these games, but come to c it, when i look at some of the people who have these so called awesome computers they suck at bf2, Css, or w/e ... im not putting them down , but what is it. BEst looks???, why the hell would u want that, is it to impress ur guy/girlfriend ? i really dont get it.. i have an tiny little xps 700 with nvidia 8800.. no biggy, im a momma's boy, if its not my money i dont care about it.. so with my computer i dont care what the graphics are like. as long as i am decent at the game, But w/e this is probably another post that no one will care to c. I guess only the computer people out there will only understand why bigger #'s are better in the computer world..

Sorry for grammar. to lazy to care.

it's funny. i guarantee in a few months his PSU will die, and he'll come here and cry. I already warned him and he didn't listen to me.

amd64 4000+ 2.6GHZ OC
1gb Dual DDR 352(memory can't be configured right in bios :-/, so going non-Jedec)
x1950pro PCIe

on a 20$ power supply 24/7 without a single power failure, bad boot, or anything, this power supply is almost a year old too. and it's made by logisys, lol.

I got a power supply in my 30$ case. It's a 450W and made by cyberlink. Within the first month of having my PC, I was already reformating because the random BSOD's had corrupted the registry. I reformated about once or twice a week for 4 months until I could buy a new power supply. Then I bought an Antec 500w and haven't had a single problem since.

The Cyberlink power supply had dual +12v rails with 14A each, and it was 450W. It got all the right voltages, etc, it was just HORRIBLE quality. It weighs like half an ounce, which is a good indication that there are cheap parts inside it.

Rosewill is a horrible brand, don't expect it to last long.

I don't expect it to last long, the PSU and the Graphics card are going next door in a few months to my old computer and going with a new PSU and an 8800 or better.  I just didn't have the money to get either one now.  Basically its going to be a new PSU, GPU, HD, and two more DVD drives later this year (as in the end of summer or early fall).  I make around $17 an hour atm as a part time employee and will be getting a raise in June and nearly double the hours so I will be able to afford it then, but dealing with school, rent, etc now just didn't allow me to pay for this as well. Rosewill had enough positive feedback for the first 6 months it will work for me.  After that I was thinking Antec of BFG not really sure though.

As for me sucking at this game, I got this decent computer, its not even a super computer, so that I could play wake and other long view maps without stuttering and not being able to fly.  I was able to get on to BF2 today and didn't do that well at first, I was getting the profile set back up and learning the little differences in textures again because it is so much different then before, it was like moving from doom to doom 3 between the two computers.
