BF2S Forums Shock paddles - fact or fiction

In the military i would expect they use paddles as theres no telling how many people or times they're going to use the defrib... thats just guessin tho. either way, as long as theres a zzzzap

Oh ok, because in the UK we use those sorts of defibs on resus trolleys now too, as well as with paramedic teams. Interesting.....I wish we still used paddle, can't rub the stickers together and don't get to shout clear as much

hahahaha ive not heard of defibs being used to stop typing cramps but ill put the thought across at my next clinical skills seminar

Lol they have the potential to yes. What a defibrillator is, is a machine which passes an electrical impulse between to points (the paddles) when these points are placed either side of the heart. When someone's heart is fibrillating (vibrating rather than steadily and rhythmically beating) the electrical potential jerks it back into its original rhythm. If someone's heart isn't in fibrillation and you defibrillate it, this causes the heart to contract when its not meant to and causes cardiac arrest. hope that clears a few things up

Hehe, I just wish the game was like in real life. If you get shocked you fly like 5 feet back.

I love the part where your caracter says: your alive buddy, now get back in the fight! Getting shot several times in the head and chest and... zapp.... you're back.

I used to be a medic in the dutch army, trained for bullet- and knifewounds especially and everytime i hear that line, it makes me smile.

Btw the part where the medic says: Clear! is rather silly cause you cant kill a friendly with paddles. It only disrupts team communications on large servers.

@markymark, can you tell me if shockpaddles work through clothing?

Hehehe so true about the You'll live buddy, now get in the fight! hehehe i laugh every time. If i'd been shot and defibrillated back to the living, theres no way I'd wanna get back in the fight! lol

And with regards to the clothing....I'm not enitirely sure, but I've always been trained to remove clothing, with aid of scissors or just hands, and in perfect world try make sure the person does not have any nipple piercing or other metal appendages. But coming to think of it, were also told that if at all possible try to apply contacts to hairless skin, so I imagine the more material between the paddles and the person the more resistance. Also the paddles I use monitor heart movement as well as suppling the "shock" and that is pretty much totally stopped with clothing in the way. =]  If anyone else has any light on this fact please enlighten us all

Lol, yeah the one pictured is the automated one, its slightly different to the one UK health professionals are trained with, but doctors, or "medicines" in the UK use ones practically identical to this. The only major difference is that some of the setting can be changed, and your not guided through step by step by a CG voice
