Islam in principal, like most religions, is fine and theoretically very beneficial to mankind. Extremism, as is the case in most religions, is bad and potentially devastating for mankind. Islam is just front page news at the moment given the modern geopolitical climate. There are people all over the world killing each other over religion only we in the West (being typically egocentric as usual) only care about the religious extremism that threatens our way of life. We in the west also have a cheek to criticise Islam given that we perpetrated the slaughter that was the 'crusade' ...of course people will counter with the usual tired argument 'but that was years ago', as if that justifies it. Extremism is generally bad no matter what faith or belief system it comes from.
Should we judge the Jews on the actions of the Zionazis?
Should we judge all Germans on the actions of the Nazis?
Should we judge all Christians on the actions of the war mongering, right-wing Christian Bush administration (who has cited his faith as an important factor in his decision making)?
Should we judge all British on the actions of the Black and Tans?
Should we judge all Irish on the actions of the continuity IRA?
Should we judge all Muslims on the actions of Al'Qaeda?
...no
