They died to give you the right to vote.  They also died to give you the right to choose not to vote.  The only thing that comes in to play here is you voice and how much it matters.  If you vote, you have a legitimate right and reason to voice an opinion.  If you choose not to vote, then you shouldn't have the gumption to complain when you don't like what your elected officials do.

The choice is yours, act accordingly.

I'm with marine on this one.  I won't vote, just for the sake of voting, if I don't believe in any of the candidates for which I have a choice.

Yup
An argument thrown up by some though is that if you don't vote (or run yourself) then you have foregone your right to complain about the way your country is run and expect others to listen. Just throwing that out there, not advocating or dismissing it.

So, you're telling me that millions of people died so that you could decide who chose the colour of the street signs?

Wow.

Well, I don't know how things work in Australia, but having someone that can do things like change street sign color is very important.  It keeps "upper management" from having to micromanage, a.k.a. Dictatorship.

FOX News being the comedic portion.

If you're not going to vote for a presidential candidate, you should keep your mouth shut when one you don't like gets elected. Even a vote for the "lesser of two evils" is better than a vote for the worst, or no vote at all.

Yep....because street signs always change colors.........

Now listen bubbles, local things like schools, new police stations, fire stations, zoning, and taxes just to name a few.

I would be more than happy to vote for a President, and I want to, but not one since I was 18 made me want to vote for them.

You're always talking about how good you have it with your job and finances, I just assumed you could cover the expenses.

If not, perhaps you are not trying hard enough.

Never said I made millions of dollars.

Don't you have to be a certain age also?

35 for President.  However, you don't have to be that old to run for public office.  Go run for Mayor.

No biggie. usmarine2020 - be realistic.

That is unless the president of 2008/2012/2016/2004 doesn't declare himself supreme warlord of all worlds.

Here is a thought - Do some research on candidates that are running that aren't front-running/waiting in the wings dems or republicans.  Fuck the lesser of two evils bullshit.  If you see them both as evil, why vote one over the other?  At least by voting for a third (or fourth or fifth) party candidate, you are letting the institution know that you are not satisfied with the same breed of politicians running for president.  No one said you have to vote Republican/Democrat.

I've voted Green the last two elections.  I'll probably vote for Ron Paul in this election, regardless of if he makes the official Republican list, because you know he'll run again as a Libertarian.

I tend to stay out of posting in D&ST but I do read it and my opinions in most cases are quite the opposite of marine's, but my goodness people voting has absolutely no relation to one's freedom of speech.  Its amazing how many people try to wed the two.  Feel free to ignore those who don't vote, but don't try to tell them they can't say whatever they please.
