You know what's funny?  We get constant crap on here about how people only ever discuss American issues, and yet here's a whole thread dedicated to Australian politics and the number of people from other countries commenting?

None.

This is why we only ever talk about the US.  No-one cares about Australia.

My understanding was that Therese Rein was caught out only because her company found out that the pay conditions where incorrect under common law and tried to pay the employees extra to make up the difference, if her company tried to cover it up they could have gotten away with it. Then again in a few years under the new Work-Choices there will be no such thing as being under-payed or lacking working conditions, also this new "fairness test" is a joke, when award conditions are phased out what will this fairness test be compared with... nothing.

Anyway it's not like K-Rudd is bailing his brothers company out of the shit with tax payers money like Johny did.

My plan for world domination: Stop mining uranium in Australia. Let the world convert to nuclear power. Exhaust the world’s supply of uranium. Start mining again.

All I need now is to get elected, turn Australia into an Empire and rule with an iron fist.

I CLAIM INFORMATION FRAUD! THAT WAS MY IDEA!

Heh heh heh.

I dislike Rudd and Labor on personality. Rudd just seems a bit too... smug (even more so than Johnny).

On the economy: Howard will continue to ride the Chinese wave, but if he's smart he'll milk it for all its worth. I don't see any troubles for the economy for the forseeable future if we continue this way. Rudd will probably do the same, but his instincts for centralization worry me.

On IR: Howard gets a NO. Rudd gets a NO. WorkChoices is bad, but so is the idea of 'Fair Work Australia'.

On the environment: Howard doesn't do anything. Rudd says a lot, but doesn't really do much. I personally can't choose.

Health + Education: Rudd is probably better.

On balance: Can't pick. I'd probably vote for Howard, I dislike Rudd too much.

Johnny is already riding the China boom as if he had something to do with it, the Liberals have been in power for one of the largest booms in Australian history and yet there has been little infrastructure been added by the government and in fact allot of infrastructure we did own has now been sold off. Really selling off the entire communication infrastructure with telsra was a bad move, we should have kept the infrastructure and just sold of telstra then there would have been real competition amongst the telcos.

Rudds instincts for centralisation??????, If you haven't noticed as every single state is controlled by Labour and the Liberal federal government has tried to take control of everything, education, hospitals, water, etc, etc... Johnny has tried to centralise everything.

What can Rudd do, he's in opposition all he can do is "say allot".

Being a gaming site I'll give you the number one reason we (being gamers) should vote for Labour... Rudd want to build faster broadband (maybe even fibre to the node, IE 100+ mbps). The second reason is that he mite make being on the dole easier and then we can all quit our jobs and game 24/7.

Examples? Rudd has his "Fair Work Australia", which is about as centralized as it gets.

What can Rudd do, he's in opposition all he can do is "say allot".
Maybe he should stop yapping on about targets and start pledging money here and there...

Perhaps he already has, but any pledges have been deluged by all this stuff about "targets".

If this is a reason to vote Labour there's no way in hell I'm voting Labour.

"Fair Work Australia" is only centralised because Johnny centralised industrial relations under his AWAs, not saying that federal Labour doesn't like centralising things just that Johnny has done more centralising in the last 10 years than has happened in the last 50.

You need a target otherwise it becomes pretty meaningless, without any targets any reduction no matter how small is a success when it really isn't. Labour also has come up with some policies regards to climate change, Johnnies only pledge it to build heaps of nuclear power stations of which there are none around the world which don't run without massive government subsidies, they are just uneconomical especially for a country as small as Australia (in population and density).

OK I was joking about the second reason, but the first is important. Australia does lag behind the rest of the world with Internet connection (get the pun) and for Australias own good we need to improve that alone.

The real number one reason to vote labour is that this boom will not last forever then the real affects of AWAs will take hold, we'll all be working seven days a week for $2.50 an hour and if you don't like it your fired. AWAs is just removal of minimum wage by stealth, basically the removal of the last 50 (if not more) years of workers rights.

Spark wont end up on $2.50 an hour mate. He has no real reason to worry about IR laws because competition from employers to find kids as smart as him is as high as it gets.

More intelligent than just about everybody I know at school. My school isn't none too bright though. There's about 10 people in it of 250 that I would consider bright.

I agree, it will take a small Labor miracle for those Liberal seats to fall. Kooyong are very keen on Petro Giorgio and I don't think there are that many swinging voters in that and Higgins to get rid of Costello and Giorgio.

I still think Howard gets a uphill battle to keep Bennelong from Maxine McKew.

Screw being on the roll. Do you know how much fun it is when you turn up for voting without being on the roll?

I don't either but I'm giving it a shot next year.

In the later part of this year. It depends when the prime minister wants them (within a particular period).
