I am planning to do two main things to my rig within the near future:
Get a new Hard drive: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6822152052
I have a pair of old IDE drives that I've dropped a few times and I hate the wide IDE cables so I'm upgrading. (BTW, SATA are faster and quieter and all-around better than IDE right?)
I'm also updating to Vista: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a … 6832116204
I might wait a bit to do this for more drivers and etc.
My question is this:
I really hate having to reinstall games that wont save my data (GTA: SA, Roller Coaster Tycoon, etc.) so whenever I've had to do anything, I just move everything onto one of my current drives (I have two crappy, old, IDE ones as stated before), and move them back when finished.
When I upgrade to Vista, can I move everything onto one drive, use my new one to install Vista, then put the old one in and move everything onto the new one?
Or will Vista give me a hassle because all the programs are from XP? (For example, will I need to format the old drive when I put it into vista and lose all my programs anyway?)
This is my hopeful plan:
1) Buy Vista and new drive.
2) Put everything except XP onto one current drive.
3) Install Vista onto new drive.
4) Put old drive with all programs into computer.
5) Move all programs from old (crappy) drive onto new drive.
6) Remove old drive, to just have new drive with Vista and all programs without having to reinstall all my games.
WILL THIS WORK?!?
