If you lost a relative in the Dallas area recently, I wouldn't read this.

===============================

Guy I know has/had cancer. Supposed to be dead by now. All over. He goes for some radical treatment, still alive. Matter of fact, remission. Crazy. He decides to live life to the fullest. Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead.

He decides to go buy a Harley.

I know where you think this is going, but it's worse.

He has never owned one, and has no license. Buys one, puts it on a trailer, and takes it home.

Goes out to a bar at the lake Saturday night and meets a chick. Bike still at home.

She says" wow, you bought a bike? I LOVE bikes."

He asks said chick if she wants to ride on the bike Sunday.

She says yes. They're on the bike, no license, no experience, no helmets.

They're on an overpass next to an 18 wheeler when the suction from the truck and a gust of wind team up and run him up against the concrete embankment that is the wall of the overpass. He scrapes his right knee, keeps the bike up, and doesn't even damage the bike.

He turns around to say "whew that was close" and he doesn't see the girl.

Apparently (according to the guy driving behind them), when they got close to the wall she stuck BOTH hands on the concrete embankment trying to push off or something and the momentum of the bike was still headed forward when she wasn't, and it catapulted her over the rail, head over heels. She dropped 50 feet to her death.

First date. Guy didn't even know her last name until the police told him. You can read about it on DallasNews.com

F-ed up...

By the way, we've had plenty of fun with "man, she fell for him.. hard" and "she went head over heels for him" jokes. Not to him of course, but amongst yourselves you just can't pass this shit up...

It was a Harley. A Fat Boy.

I am still thinking about this.

1. He never should have ridden without training and a class.

2. He never should have ridden without a license.

3. Novice riders especially should never ride without a helmet.

4. You shouldn't ride with a passenger until you are fully capable of handling the bike yourself.

5. She never should have gotten on a Harley with a guy she met the night before.

6. She should have at least ASKED how long he'd been riding.

7. She should have insisted on a helmet.

8. He shouldn't have been cruising the frigging highway in light of everything else. The neighborhood would have been fine.

I have been alternately laughing my ass off and feeling bad about it. Weird deal.

I mate of mine, Alan recently got into the Motorcycle club, just a little Yamaha. He's in the process of getting his full licence, he's on his restricted or something. Anyway one Friday a group of my mates got together at my place to watch a movie on the theater I set up in the spare room, (A Clockwork Orange,) and another friend of mine, Erin, had requested a week or so before that she be given a ride on Alan's bike. This particular Friday Alan brought around a second helmet so they could ride around the bays and back. So they left my place and less than a kilometer from it around Lowry/York bay Alan lost control and skidded on the road. Alan was lucky enough to be thrown to the side of the road into the soft dirt, but Erin just came straight off onto the road. The car behind, (which Alan had just before overtaken,) stopped to help and called an ambulance. Alan got of with minor bruises and scratches, but Erin got thumped around a lot and winded up shattering her kneecap. This was about three weeks ago now and it's an injury which takes up to a year to fully heal. She's had to leave her job as a junior accountant because of it, (although fortunately she was thinking of quitting and going back to university anyway.) Alan of course feels guilty as Hell.

You need a lot of experience to be able to take passengers and it always seems to be the passenger, not the driver who gets the more serious injuries, (or killed.) This guy was just stupid, on a powerful bike with very limited experience, (I imagine my mate had more experience than him,) taking a passenger on a busy road - it's just a recipe for disaster.
