Actually dreams do have meanings. Dreams are basically you running through the days events. The reason dream dictionaries and the like are so vague is that the symbolism in the dream is unique to you. The only way to learn what your dreams mean is to keep both an 'awake' and a 'dream' diary - that way you will start to be able discern patterns in the previous days events and the dreams you had that night. But you can't just say "if you dream about cats it's about a tall dark stranger"...
Star signs are interesting. The time of year you were born does affect you personality, but only on a very general and statistical level. So it is statistically correct to say "most cancerians are moody". But you can't say "On 15th of August cancerians will meet a tall dark stranger".
And tarot cards. Yep. They're just vague. But that's the point. They are a method of 'seeking truth'. By being vague they get you to think about a problem from a different perspective. This allows your concious mind to learn things your unconcious mind already knows (you are not conciously aware of all the knowledge that is accessable to your unconcious mind). Again, they can't tell you that you'll meet a tall stranger. But they might tell you that a tall dark stranger that you met once is the answer to your problems (or at least they can get your subconcious to).
