does anyone follow this sort of thing? i was reading the thread about dreams and i figured i'd look up interpretations. nearly all of them were vague, contradictory and baseless. it seemed very similar to tarot cards or star signs. there is never any reason as to why taurus is this or pieces is that or why dreaming about something happening in october means this or dreaming in blue means that etc.. do dreams have general meanings? are star signs real?

no.

but still.. its interesting.

Stars move over time as our position in the galaxy changes, and the planets follow the same path they have followed for 5 billion years, regardless of what is happening in my little life.

Dreams probably do reflect something, but it varies wildly from person to person, and I doubt they can be interpreted with any degree of accuracy.

In mine, they usually begin with some monster appearing, and end with me killing the monster in the most cartoonish way possible...

possible interpretation: too many cartoons before bed...

Actually dreams do have meanings. Dreams are basically you running through the days events. The reason dream dictionaries and the like are so vague is that the symbolism in the dream is unique to you. The only way to learn what your dreams mean is to keep both an 'awake' and a 'dream' diary - that way you will start to be able discern patterns in the previous days events and the dreams you had that night. But you can't just say "if you dream about cats it's about a tall dark stranger"...

Star signs are interesting. The time of year you were born does affect you personality, but only on a very general and statistical level. So it is statistically correct to say "most cancerians are moody". But you can't say "On 15th of August cancerians will meet a tall dark stranger".

And tarot cards. Yep. They're just vague. But that's the point. They are a method of 'seeking truth'. By being vague they get you to think about a problem from a different perspective. This allows your concious mind to learn things your unconcious mind already knows (you are not conciously aware of all the knowledge that is accessable to your unconcious mind). Again, they can't tell you that you'll meet a tall stranger. But they might tell you that a tall dark stranger that you met once is the answer to your problems (or at least they can get your subconcious to).

I believe in the Golden Ratio.  Seems a little too random that it keeps popping up everywhere...but then again when you are looking for something you'll be bound to find it.

I also believe that everytime you whack off you kill an angel.

This is a good video

Derren Brown - Documentary – Messiah
This documentary-styled one-hour film sees Derren in America attempting to raise questions about the validity of certain religious and spiritual belief systems; belief systems that people are encouraged to base their lives upon - such as new-age faiths and mainstream Christianity. Can he get certain authority figures to endorse him as the real thing?
