- What SHOULD have made it into the 7 new wonders of the world?
This is what happens when you let morons and halfwits decide things.
The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

The general public failed. I see a lot of people posting buildings that were pretty common in their era. A wonder should be something that really stands out from anything else built in history. Something that you would think would be almost impossible to build with our current or past knowledge.
Also, I keep seeing people posting that the "new" 7 wonders should actually be "newer" buildings....NO...that is not what they were voting on. The original 7 wonders of the world are gone except one. So they wanted to make a new list of existing structures that you or I could actually go see. I doesn't matter if they were the Pyramids or the Sidney Opera house....as long as the wonder exists. That is what the vote was about.
By the way Poe....this is why the Redeemer statue got in:
In Brazil there was a campaign Vote no Cristo (Vote for the Christ) which had the support of private companies, namely telecommunications operators that stopped charging voters to make telephone calls to vote. Additionally, leading corporate sponsors including Banco Bradesco and Rede Globo spent "millions" of dollars in the effort to have the statue voted into the top seven. Newsweek reports the campaign was so pervasive that: “One morning in June, Rio de Janeiro residents awoke to a beeping text message on their cell phones: “Press 4916 and vote for Christ. It’s free!” The same pitch had been popping up all over the city since late January—flashing across an electronic screen every time city-dwellers swiped their transit cards on city buses and echoing on TV infomercials that featured a reality-show celebrity posing next to the city’s trademark Christ the Redeemer statute. By early July, around 10 million Brazilians had voted in the contest.

Well the vote system was all fucked up.You know why did the great wall of china is in the 7 wonders?because it was voted FROM ALL THE CHINESE.Everyone could vote for their country. You will say "Cmon man, this is no eurovision",i agree, but people fail to realize it...And yeah, there are loads of wonders around the world, and some of the ones that were picked didnt even deserve a mention imo...
Or because it's one of the (if not the) most incredible man-made structures in history.Metal-Eater-GR wrote:

One of the two. Flip a coin.

According to some experts it could up to 8000 years old !!!!!
hey,did i said that the great wall was rubbish?,its awesome but cmon...Ive read in magazines that the most votes where from chinese for this structure.RedTwizzler wrote:

read my post,u think the chinese voted for it bcuz it was an incredible man-made structure or bcuz it was in their country?
YOU flip a coin. The same happened with other wonders
Both. Sorry, but they're not mutually exclusive.Metal-Eater-GR wrote:

I know it is your opinion...but do you know why they wanted a new list? Because the only existing wonder from the original seven is the Giza Pyramid complex. All the other original seven do not exist and in fact, nobody really knows what they looked like. The new voting was made to create an up to date version based on wonders around the world that STILL exist today....old or new...as long as they still exist, they were voted on. As long as the Pyramids exist,,,they will be part of the wonders of the world. Why would you ban a wonder just because it was on an old list.......its still present and still a wonder, therefore acceptable.Ninja_Kid2002 wrote:

I'm surprised that none of the monuments of ancient Greece (which still stand today) are on the list. I probably would have had the Acropolis as one of my choices.
Oh, and Metal-Eater? I hope you realize that a large number of Chinese people don't have access to computers or phones or whatever the hell you need to vote for this. So take your generalized anti-Chinese shit and shove it.

Very True Cowami....the voting is flawed because some countries made mass campaigns, even the governments got involved so that their local "wonder" would possibly make the list and of course hoping it would boost tourism...oh the almighty dollar or whatever your currency is. This is why the Redeemer Statue and the Sydney Opera house made the short list and the finals. Now, to say that the Great Wall made it only because the chinese voted for it is ridiculous. Metal-Eater...do you have any idea how monumental the Great wall was and is. The Great wall is actually bigger than it appears. Don't forget the human toll that it took to create and its a testament to the chinese people that it still stands. The wall was not the only thing "wonderful", it was the way the Chinese used the wall, how they incorporated garrisons, how they communicated, how the wall defended a way of life. It is a wonder and should be in the top 7.cowami wrote:
