Paraphrased off a Dailykos diary, but I thought this was pretty interesting...and good news for Ron Paul and Obama fans as well as bad news for neo-con chickenhawks.
Campaign contributions from active duty military and declared veterans (Q2):
Anti-war:
Ron Paul 26.23%
Barack Obama 24.02%
Hillary Clinton 11.08%
Bill Richardson 5.59%
John Edwards 2.63%
Joe Biden 0.84%
Mike Gravel 0.16%
Dennis Kucinich 0.05%
Chris Dodd 0%
Pro-war:
John McCain 18.31%
Mitt Romney 4.05%
Rudy Giuliani 2.44%
Mike Huckabee 1.84%
Tom Tancredo 1.63%
Duncan Hunter 1.05%
Sam Brownback 0.07%
Tommy Thompson 0%
Jim Gilmore 0%
John Cox 0%
Note on Obama - he seems to have actually cheated a bit on his numbers, requiring everyone that so much as buys a $1 bumper sticker to fill out their information and then he reports it as contributions to bolster his numbers.
So, the question that's gotta be asked is: Why do the troops hate the troops so much? Those that put their money where their mouthes are this quarter seem to have voted for a little "cut'n'run". It even looks like they'd rather "fight them over here" instead. Maybe they don't even want to "bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran...". Maybe they're not up for the "long war" and don't want to wait for the Iraqi's to "stand up so we can stand down". At least they're probably still "listening to the generals on the ground" unlike the prez. Did I miss any other talking points?
Anyways, the dems in congress seem to still be pretty cowed in containing the chimperator in chief, but the voters look like they'll fix the problem after a year or so. Thoughts?
