Don't you just hate that horrible sound?

So I think one of my HDD's is about to say F YOU!

I have a 36GB Raptor as my primary drive, and a 80GB Seagate 80GB for storage and junk.

I've been noticing a clicking sound. Now, I've heard a click of death before....this sounds like it.

Also, my PC has been freezing a lot, if I try to move files or whatever. Sometimes it won't start, it will just sit there.

Today I couldn't get it to start, it went passed the XP splash screen, and then it froze on a black screen. I unplugged the IDE cable from the Seagate drive and it started first try. Now, is that just coincidence, or if my storage drive was bad would that mess things up?

I ran an error check on the Raptor in Windows (drive properties > tools > error check) and it came up fine I guess.

Soooo is it possible that if my secondary drive is bad that it would screw me over?

EDIT: Also is there any good programs to scan for HDD failure?

It is possible that you have a virus on your secondary drive. Very possible.

{offtopic} One of the reasons Linux > Windows (It doesn't really have a virus problem and the file system does not fuck up your HD)

This has nothing to do with a virus. A virus doesn't make your HDD click...

Yar, definately sounds like ur HDD is about to say goodbye...

I have a 120GB Seagate Baracudda, and it stared to make the click of death noise this morning...

So Im off to get a new one (250GB Seagate 7200RPM, 16MB Cache, NCQ, 8.9ms seek time )

maybe our HDDs were made at the same time...

yes it's possible. i had an ide going bad and it would even sometimes make all my drives (2 ide optical 2 ide hdd and 1 sata hdd) not show up on boot and randomly disappear from windows.  put in a new sata hdd to rplace both of the ide's and no more problems.

it's funny how one thing being messed up can screw up your whole damn pc

Do you have SMART enabled on your drive?

Sounds like it's time to buy a new hard disk. This problem is most likely only going to get worse and you want to get your data transfered over to a new drive ASAP.

I don't understand how you can manage on a meagre 120GB anyway.

I got by solely on a 74GB Raptor! However, as soon as I got my 300GB drive, I filled it. I have 40GB left of it now, after some clearing!

I struggle to get by on much more than that. I don't even know how many hard drives I've got. I can see a box with 6 or 7 in right now, including a couple of 36GB Raptors. I typically have a 500GB RAID array for system disk and apps, a 300GB disk for films and a 120GB disk for music. I constantly run out of space on those - thank the gods for hot swapable SATA drives for quick easy backup.

I just don't have that much junk lol. I play games and browse the web, and do a little coding on the side.

Now I gotta figure out where to put 80GB of data. :s
