I've seen quite a few things that suggest bf2 still uses a hell of a lot of old bf1942 code.

When the spawn selection screen first comes up and you select spawn point and push enter, half the time the game doesn't recognise your selection, and asks you to choose again.

The glitch with the explosives, where sometimes it doesn't let you select the detonator.

The way hand grenades don't seem to be thrown by your player..... they seem to appear from behind your player most of the time..... even if you're standing still.

The way you can hold a direction then tap the speak key and you'll carry on moving in the same direction till the typing session is ended.

These are all things that were very specific to the bf1942 code. If bf2 was REALLY rebuild from the ground up.... you wouldn't think it'd have exactly the same anomolies as the first game did.

The things you mentioned are not game engine related.

"A game engine is the core software component of a video game. It typically handles graphical rendering and other necessary technology, but might also handle additional tasks such as game AI and collision detection between game objects, among other things. The most common element that a game engine provides is graphics rendering facilities (2D or 3D). Another common attribute of game engines is platform abstraction, so the game can run in various platforms (game consoles, Microsoft Windows) with little, if any, changes in the game source code." I didn't say it was a bad thing but it certainly wasn't an intentional feature they put in..... it was just an unplanned anomalie of the original game code. Kind of a happy accident for the players that discovered it.

Seems bloody strange it's still in there, if the game really was remade from the ground up. (which it clearly wasn't).

Of course not -- that'd be stupid. No major project like this is EVER made from the ground up. Quake 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 all contain many elements of the previous version, but each engine is distinctly more powerful and feature enabled than the last.

Is this supposed to be a bad thing? Shocking? What?

like chuy said, code was taken and added to, and some was made, etc. abut the detanator, glitch it, works like a charm
