What is the ideal infantry squad composed of? I'd say 2 assault, 2 medic, 1 support, and 1 AT/Spec-Ops.
Any other ideas?

I think that's the ideal squad, but more likely it ends up being 6 medics and maybe one of them substituted for an assault or AT.

However, a squad full of only medics is actually really good as long as they stick together, and take out threats before reviving. But it'd be good to have one person as support, because staying alive for a long time will cause you to run low on ammo eventually.

Well I have 5 buddies, and they all have BF2.

id have some ppl who can change kits so itll be more adaptable
but a good squad should have at least 2 medics and 1 support.
maybe 1 sniper, 1 spec ops, and a assualt for the last 3
snipers are useful in infantry cause they spot...and they weaken ppl before the infantrymen go in
you could replace the sniper and spec for 2 ATs or 1 AT and 1 engy

are we talking about IO or non-IO

b/c a squad of 6 medics won't last as long on a vehicle map, they're easy tank fodder, especially b/c they'll revive each other

It really depends on what team, map, and if it's IO.

For me. It's simple. Any non IO map get whatever you wish. IO? Medics!

Non-IO will need two AT, a support, a medic, and maybe an engineer, with the others to taste.
However, a squad is typically four; driver gunner, two passengers. So, medic, AT, support, and one other to taste, usually some guy you picked up around the way.
Engineer is a common choice on vehicle-heavy maps, where you frequently end up fixing the hummer or nestled up close to tanks giving out heal.

Says you. Only assault has flashbangs, heh. And you'd be screwed if a LAV came out of nowhere. With AT, at least you'd have a chance.

5 AT 1 medic, you run out of ammo? have someone shoot you and revive you fast. Medic dies pick up his kit and revive him. maybe 4 AT 1 assault, 1 medic. If it is IO 2 assault 4 medics or 6 medic

IO = 6 medics
Normal attacking = 4 AT, 1 medic, 1 support
Normal Defending = 4 AT/Engineer/Spec Ops, 1 medic, 1 support

Why so many AT? If you have more than one or two, you come into serious trouble putting up a fight against infantry, and even a tank is easily put down by a couple of rockets placed properly by a skilled AT player.

This is probably the best idea, especially if you're in a larger clan. Then you've got more people with a varied kit structure (i.e. medic, support, assault, etc), and are still good players.

For IO it should be 3 Medic, 1 Support and 2 of whatever else the others want to be.

Everyone seems to be AT happy on non-IO maps, but I've managed just fine in a full squad that didn't have any ATs (or engys or spec ops for that matter). When a tank comes we just avoid it! Of course, I have been playing Special Forces a lot lately where maps are a bit smaller with loads of cover, so it is easier to avoid tanks than in vanilla.

Only assaults with FN2000 have flashnades. With stock weapon or G3, unless we're playing SF, have smokenades.

And didn't we discuss IO??? 3 medics and 3 supports are useless against vehicles.

In vehicle mode I think maybe 2 engy, 2 AT, 1 medic and 1 support. If the medic gets killed, just take the kit and revive him. Or let him spawn at the sqdleader. Never let the medic be sqdleader.

There are many combinations that work well. The only class that doesn't really fit in is sniper because unless they are really good they won't be of that much use. And we all know how many talented snipers there are in BF2

My personal favorite for non-IO is 2 AT, 2 medics, 1 support and 1 spec ops/engineer.
For IO I would opt for 5 medics and 1 support.

It's funny that I don't mention assault yet assault is the class I love so much

Depends on what you're doing.

IO -> 6 medics

But since we only play IO in matches, my ideal vehicle server squad consists of 3 AT, 2 Medics, and 1 support (since we stay out of armor as well).  Those AT rockets/DAO kill everything in sight.

Honestly, AT is the ONLY kit I play anymore simply because you CAN destroy any vehicle and infantry at any range. There is no "crap there's a tank/helicopter, go hide."  With three AT rockets, you can destroy a tank without the need to reload destroying it before he has the chance to retreat/repair, you can attack that tank from multiple areas, so as to confuse him even more, and if one guy goes down, you still have 2 or more AT guys left to harass that tank.  With only 1 AT person in a squad, if you face any pair of armor you're entire squad is totally screwed.  With 3, you can co-ordinate an attack, destroy one vehicle instantly, and now the second vehicle gets scared because his engineer is gone.

I mean, the other day, I was alone capping a flag when an APC rolled up with 3 people in it.  A quick TOW blast and SRAW destroyed the APC within a second of it coming out of cover, and that DAO cleaned up the other guys without any trouble at all.

AT is by far the greatest kit in the Battlefield game, it's just most people are scared/unimpressed with it's lower SPM even though it's normally the kit that wins the round.
