yeah, actually there is a story behind the names. This is not actually our first baby. Unfortunately, we lost our first daughter, Claire Elizabeth, in her 7th month of pregnancy. Everything was going well until my wife got appendicitis and had to undergo emergency surgery. For the month after the operation my wife did not gain any weight, and everything went wrong with the baby. Eventually we went to an ultrasound and the doctor told us that the baby was dead. They had to induce labor, and because we were in the third trimester we actually had to bury our daughter in a cemetery and buy a headstone and everything. It was extremely hard on my wife. She felt as though somehow it had been her fault...

So by the names Claire and Grace, the first name is to remember our first daughter, and the second name is gratitude to God for giving us a healthy baby this time. (can't get appendicitis twice!)

Hmmm,.. well I still think it depends on the last name as well; for the flow.

But without that knowledge, I'd say Claire's better. You do get a double "l" both in Madeline and in Claire, but it has a good sound to it. It seems a good way to remember your first daughter as well and you obviously liked the name before. Apart from that I think Grace sounds a bit to old, it's a bit old fashioned; it sounds a bit harsher and more suited for an elderly lady.
