Well, following any non-renewable source, its gonna happen soon enough.
Heres how I see the Oil Apocalypse going down (Figuring we haven't found a decent alternative)
Part I: Gas Prices around the world are through the roof. Personal vehicles become too expensive to run for the average person. Public Transportation is also becoming expensive and crowded. Airline fees are too expensive for most people to use. There is a multi-national search for undersea oil reserves.
Part 2: People become bitter(er) and they start turning on each other. I could see people hijacking Gas trucks off US roads. Gas stations no longer get robbed for cash, but for gas. Gas is siphoned out of cars, out of holding tanks. People start taking the law into their own hands, etc. Smaller nations begin to fight with each other over reserves.
Part 3: Wars. Lots of them. Countries that are already warring, war with others. Civil war in some places. Superpowers try to hold things back, still working on a solution. People can no longer afford to use cars. Oil exporting countries are down half in production.
Part 4: OPEC shuts down. All ground oil that hasn't been discovered is gone. Only reserves left. Major wars start. Some Arab country with reserves shuts down its exports, saving the rest for its people. Other nations attack (US, UN possibly). There is no de-throning goal or freeing the people. Its get to the Reserves and export them. Yelling at NATO, the UN. Bitter hostilities. Bombs begin to drop all over.
Part 5: The last of the Reserves. Who knows? Seriously. Without Oil, an Army cannot function. Planes won't fly, boats will be lost at sea forever. Power and water grids start to shut down. Cars lay vacant on the roads, trains lay empty. Airports turn to ghost towns
Part 6: None Left. What now? Seriously. Troops on the other side of the world are stranded there. There is no power, no water, no communication. Nothing. War seems pointless now, so it ceases.
Aftermath. Would history re-start? Would we start at the stone age and work up to the top again? Or would the desperate measures of a hundred nations render the possibility of civilized society useless?
What is your take on this scenario?
