My turn to blog.

In all honesty, the thought of going blind scares me shitless. Although I have no reason to think that's happening to me now, A definitive answer from people who studied for years on this topic is still a week away, and not knowing what's wrong bugs me a lot. What am I talking about, you ask? I have three problems with my eyes, and searching on the interwebs has not revealed any possible causes. So, I'd appreciate any input you may or may not be able to provide.

Right, symptom 1:

I see a sort of.. speck. It's as if there was a piece of dirt on my eye, and I could see it (without the excruciating pain) It's always there, but it's particularly visible when I look at bright things. When I look at something else, the speck follows, but with delayed motion. It's also pretty small.

symptom 2:

Wearing contact lenses puts intolerable strain on my eyes. When I wear contact lenses for more than a few hours, my eyes get really strained and tired. I also get pain around the socket and small but painful headache-spams at the front. until I remove the lenses. When I do, I feel fine again in under a minute.

symptom 3:

I see a thin orange (and sometimes blue) glow around bright objects against a dark background. I've always had this, but it's been so subtle I've barely ever noticed and thus forgot about its existence. Recently, It's been getting a lot stronger, and I see the glow around things that have less contrast with the background. If I look closely, it goes away, but whenever I relax, I can see it. In the past month It's gotten so strong, that I can see a faint orange around the text I'm writing now, the border of this post, and the scrollbar at the side. It's hard to imagine for you, I guess. It's very thin, not a blurry hue.

so, if you're not completely perplexed..

got any ideas?

The contact lenses could be straining your eyes because they are the wrong strength. This strain could be causing your other symptoms. Check with an optician, what do you have to loose.

Yes, electronic stimulation. Its bad for your eyes, and it explains the glow and the headaches with the lenses.

Its the constant changing of lights, focal objects, etc on TVs and Computers that does that to you.

My advice, take a few weeks break from the TV and the computer. Don't stare at the sun. If you need glasses, get them. Going without glasses when you need them puts a lot of strain on your retinas.

Symptom one sounds oddly like retinal burns.

I get the first sympton, but not permanent, and also get the 3rd- but only get orange colours :<.

Its probably something to do with the fact I got a golf ball in my eye ~2 years ago..... The list of eye injuries I got from it was huge, but fortunately the physical shit cleared up after ~2 months, and you can hardly tell it happened.

How long have you been having the problems for?

no idea, but asking BF2S for medical advice doesn't seem so smart ...
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Sure.  Don't get medical advice from 14-year olds on BF2s.  Go visit an eye doctor.

I'm only a first year medic so I don't know much... but symptom 2 is natural, if you aren't used to a new prescription then your eyes get tired after using them. Headaches at the front of the head are common during this time as well. As long as those contacts were prescribed by a professional you must force yourself to wear them so your eyes get used to them.

The other 2 symptoms sound more serious, go see a eye specialist straight away. It may just be too much time on the pc, or you may have damaged your fovea or optic nerve.

We have a winner

# Tiny blind spots appear at the edges of the visual field (peripheral or side vision) that slowly get larger and spread

# Blurred vision

# Appearance of colored halos around lights

# Adjustment problems on entering a dark room

# Repeated difficulties that new eyeglass prescriptions do not help

# Peripheral (side) vision is decreasing

I'm sure you read my OP. I'm sure you read the part in which I describe how I have to wait a week before said doctor can help me, so I'll just go on to point out how I do not take anything said here for granted. This topic serves two purposes for me:

1) Again, as described in the OP, not knowing any possible causes bugs me, so just discussing it and hearing what other people have to say eases my mind.

2) There may actually be some good advice that, even if it were wrong, could do no harm. For example, people recommending that I spend less time staring at a screen may just have a point, so trying it and seeing if it helps may even provide a clue for the aforementioned eye doctor.

EDIT: quote from the OP:

Well, I can diagnose some really nasty stuff that you might have ... do you want me to mention those?  Will that "ease your mind" or "do no harm"?

Worrying about this will not make it better, but it might make your life miserable when you hear the worst-case scenarios that some might repeat after their Google search.  So, my advice is to wait for a doctor to give you the real answer.
