The actual latency is only a few ms faster, the big difference is with fps since you take a big load away from the CPU.
Areas where this piece of hardware really shines are servers with large environments with high player counts, sound familiar?
Because the CPU/onboard controllers no longer has to process large amount of netcode you get a boost.

When I get it I'll do a detailed analysis of my own if you like.

I currently have a GA-7VAXP Ultra with VIA ethernet controller + XP3000 with a Speedtouch 585v6 wireless router tweaked with DMT 7.34

Finally someone else who understands the benefits of an Network Interface Card instead of using onboard ethernet.

I would be still using mine if that stupid fan on my video card didn't go ever so slightly over the adjacent PCI slot.
Whats wrong with the mobo net card ?
it's extremely slow compared to a dedicated NIC
I actually have a Killer NIC M1 on the way. Can't wait for it to get to me.
If you get a chance, make another thread about how it works, I've always been interested to see if those things actually work

Will you try doing a benchmark by running a couple of games with the card, then removing it (temporarily ofc) and see how it then runs, to give us some hard proof ?

E.g. CSS with screenshots of net_graph 3 which will show both latency, lag, loss and FPS and maybe COD4 with /showfps 1 ?

I never thought about a dedicated Network card. I'll keep that in mind.

Edit: you mean something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6833156139 ?

So do you honestly think it makes a difference?

My latency in games like CSS is 10-20 ms in denmark and 30-40 in the UK/Germany/France/Etc.

You don't need it to be faster than that -.-

And not to mention LAN is WAY faster than Internetz....

Tbh it's a waste of money if you ask me
Only if you get a Killer NIC, 20$ ones aren't really a waste.

I think it's cool the way it works, the cpu doesn't need to run cycles for internet stuff anymore because it is offloaded to the NIC processor, which was made to do internet stuff and therefore does it faster/better than on-board could.  When I had mine in, it dropped 15 ping off my average ping on BF2 and downloads and page loading went noticeably faster as well.

There's some reviews in here that back up my theory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductRe … 6833106123

Yes, that's perfect.  Pretty much any NIC will show an improvement over on-board.

I first experimented with NICs when I found a Netgear card in my garage from like eight years back when my dad used to make Windows 3.0/95/98 computers and sell them.
