I also suggest waiting until january for the major price drops. I didn't in june and missed out on my opportunity at getting a Q6600 and I MAJORLY regret it.

Wait for the 45nm Q9450. That's what I'm getting. It'll be $316 at release. No sense getting an X38 unless you get a 45nm CPU. Besides that, everything looks good. G92 GTS will be the best thing out there for the price in January. Then you can always update when the 9 series is released in Q2 2008.

And then there'll be more new hardware coming out soon after that.

Hold on till end of 2012, when the world as we know will come to end, then we can all go to heaven and get our PC fantasies fulfilled for absolutely nothing (god has the best PC's - just look out the window at the quality of real-time ray-tracing he can do).

As for the OP, if you're thinking of upgrading the video card anyway, I'd go for summat cheaper for now - sure it ain't gonna be great, but it will be cheap.

the eclipse keyboard has worked for me for about a year now.  nice feel, and back lit is a must for us late night gamers.

I wouldn't recommend a raptor for a hard drive unless money is no issue.  there are sata drives out there today that arent far behind in seek times, etc. when compared to raptors.  i'd recommend 2 320gb seagate sata drives and you'll be set for a long time.  i picked mine up on black friday for $60 a pop at best buy.  you can find them on newegg for probably $80ish.

all the fanboys here will tell you to get a samsung 22" monitor.  again, if price is no issue than by all means, get one.  i have had plenty of experience with lesser known brands and can verify their goodness.  i had a Hanns-G 19" that did me proud for over a year, then i upgraded to an Acer 22" (another black friday bargain).  both awesome monitors and relatively cheap now.  I would recommend a 22" though, you'll be glad you did.

If your thinking sli later down the road just verify your psu can handle it.  i have no experience with bfg psu's but i've always trusted reviews and hasn't failed yet.  If i was going to build a new rig for sli, i'd probably go with an OCZ or PC Power and Cooling PSU.

A middle thing between the G15 and that one is the G11. It's the greatest middle class keyboard ever, has held up for me for over a year, and still hasn't even lost the friction on the keys. And you might think of those macro buttons as unneccesary, but you can have so much fun with them! There's nothing like messing around with a fast-click macro on flash games and such. And you get two levels of power to the backlight. And the volume control/media buttons both work and look lovely!
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I really don't understand why anyone would buy the G11, the price difference between the G11 and the G15 is only a few pounds.

?

Over here, the G15 is 100€, whiles the G11 is about 55.

It's just £10 difference over here:

G11 = £49.99

G15 = £59.99

Although that was way more that what I payed for my g15 about a year ago.

Ok so, you're saying that (in a different case, hypothetically) he should get an iPhone v1 for 500 dollars... a month before the V2 comes out the following month and which is BETTER by far for the same price that the V1 was?

Pretty retarded. I'm not saying he should like, wait until they release Nehalem. I'm saying he should wait a MONTH. Seriously. No need to patronize me for suggesting he wait a month (for a better deal, at that).

Our prices must be fucked, then.

I still reccommend you wait the month for the 45nm Core 2's (like I missed out on when the Q6600 dropped in price), but if you don't, that's your decision.

PSU looks pretty good, RAM will be fine at those speeds, drive is good too...and I suggest you go for 64 bit. Hurricane and I have it and we love it. So get it!

On the question of "will it be enough" - take a look at my post in the New Power supply thread for some links to this and other nVidia advice on PSUs for SLIs.

But, remember - more W's is always better - 700W is a minimum - I would spend a little more to get at least 800W for peace of mind - possibly even a 1000W if I'd got lots of extras in my PC (HDDs, CD/DVD/BluRay's, lots of fans, lights, etc, etc, etc) - which the listed spec doesn't, particularly.

And I would go with an Antec over OCZ, but OCZ aren't bad.

The "Memory Standard       DDR2 1200" listed in the motherboard specs is the maximum supported RAM speed - the speed of the RAM needs to match the FSB of your CPU - which it does, so that RAM is OK.

Crucial would be the make I'd go for - though I have not used that particular RAM myself, I always buy Crucial for my own PC - so spot on there.

Overdose wrote:

I've not used that particular drive, and in fact have never used a Samsung HDD, but I have heard very good things about SpinPoints - dunno how accurate what I've heard is, but it was good.

Just get 64bit - nowt much else to say, really.
