First, I think Al Gore winning the Nobel Peace Prize was bullcrap.

However, in this case, I believe Al Gore should have won TIME's MOTY.   Al Gore and his movement are influencing the world MUCH more than Putin ... tons more.  Several of us had a discussion about this this evening, and everyone agreed that Al should have been a lock for this "award."

Remember:  this is not necessarily a positive award.

perhaps, but remember Adolf Hitler was once man of the year (1938), so you're right that It means very little.  I just don't think that Al Gore is very serious about the environment, and just happens to be the most famous person on the bandwagon.

edit:and apparently stalin won twice: men of the year

edit v2.0:Putin looks like a mobster in that pic

I agree. Gore has done more than anyone else to get global warming on people's agendas (whether you see that as a good thing or a bad thing, you can't deny it's true)

That's a great pic. If I was voting, I'd want my candidate to pose like that.

Al Gore's ego would've inflated to the breaking point if he was awarded MotY. He was done a favor.

Is it just me, or does his pose in the MOTY pic look more like Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct than the Godfather?

I think Time got it right. While all other world leaders have been weakened or have otherwise been crap, Putin has been ruthlessly strong and is getting more and more influential on a global scale by the minute. And as stated: Time do not choose the person based on how positive an impact the man has. Past Time 'Men of The Year' include Hitler and Stalin.

Hittler and Stalin have both been given the tittle.
