Don't they have a journalistic code of ethics? To make the assertion between Smith saying "Hitler though he was doing a good thing" and Smith saying "Hitler was a good person" is pure sensationalised crap.blademaster wrote:

What most people do not understand is that it was Hienrick Himmler who proposed and executed the final solution.

He's probably right, Hitler is his own way thought he was helping the world. So what? It doesn't mean Will Smith believes what he does was right.
So, he's saying that Hitler was mentally "incorrect?" Maybe a bit unstable and sick?
Yeah, that's actually a pretty reasonable thing to say. Too bad that's too much complex thought for the typical media guzzling couch potato.

Hitler was a good person..... Just think how much he saved us when he topped himself. Did'nt have to pay for a trial, did'nt have to pay for him to spend time at Spandau prison and did'nt have to spend any money on rounds to slot the bugger! Oh and there would have been no end of arguments on where he gets executed and the such!
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
Anyone ever heard of Stalin?

how the hell someone could say something like that?
Quite easily. Read some books.suomalainen_äijä wrote:

I like how the headline is Smith: 'Hitler was a good person' without him ever actually saying that, or coming particularly close.
It's quite reasonable for him to say that. If you consider the mindset of hitler then what Will said is true. Whats right and wrong is only determined by the ideas and feelings of the majority.
First of all: NSDAP had the power from 1933 to 1945, not earlier.FatherTed wrote:

Well a lot of their greatness today is due to the loans they got after ww2 to build theire country up again.
They had like the most advanced industrie of everything for like a few decades? I don't know if hitler did much good than just make a war, lose and get loans.
Boost to automobile industry, and therefore BMW, Audi, Mercedes, VW - Hitlers idea
Boost to manufacturing industry (albeit through demand due to militarisation) - caused by Hitler
Reduction in unemployment - Started circa mid 1920's, sorted out by NSDAP regime
Improved economy - Started circa mid 1920's, sorted out by NSDAP regime
Again, this good imho in no way outweighs the bad stuff that happend from 33-45.
- Autobahns weren't invented by Hitler, he just boosted it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_Autobahns
- The German industry was suppressed by the winners of WW I. And when a country wants to go into a war (or is forced to), the industry gets boosted (see USA in WW II). It's neither a german phenomenon nor Hitlers credit. The rest is also industrialization and standing up after a war.
- Unemployment: Many were forced to work, the Wehrmacht had to grow ...
Development after WW II:
Much of the old industry was destroyed or dismantled for reparation transfers soon after 1945. And when the "West" realized, that a strong Germany is a better buffer against the Red Army, they had to help to raise the economy again.
At last: I wonder what the world would be, when the NSDAP regime had not happened like that. But unfortunately, we will never know.
But I hope it will be a memorial for all people, where racism, ignorance and dictatorship can lead to.

Autobahns were pushed forward because the main idea of Hitler's employment program was to reduce the numbers. Women and children were excluded because women were meant to work in the home, and children to work at school. The German RAD and so on was built to reduce the unemployment rate - jobs were pretty awful, but they paid and you got lunch and that is what mattered back then.
Well put, exactly what I was thinking, +1 karma for you...Sgt.Davi wrote:

It's not that far off. People that are missing a few marbles tend to think what they are doing is ok, regardless of how wrong it really is.
Smith was doing nothing more than thinking the situation through, and I think he hit the nail on the head. To take this idea a bit further, Hitler had some serious hate issues, and he went way too far with his actions. But again, Hitler probably thought this was fine and what he was doing was for the greater good. The problem with this combination is that these people tend to take it too far and end up practicing genocide on some level. Now, I'm not condoning Hitler's actions (and I know Smith wasn't either), but that's probably what happened.
Edit: And yeah, journalists are pretty fucking pathetic. Let's misconstrue what was said to make a big deal out of nothing. I have no respect for journalists whatsoever. They can write well, but they mostly write garbage.

Remember Me As A Time Of Day
I'd say so.....now we watch him go downhill from here, but MAYBE what he said was taken out of context. I believe what he is trying to say people have the best intentions but some times YOUR best intentions are not for everyone. Though using Hitler as an example is bad. My best guessCanin wrote:
