I just installed a second hard drive into a Dell Dimension 2350

The drive I installed is a Maxtor diamondmax 16 80gb ata/133

I installed it using the ide cable that ran from the cd-rom to the mainboard instead of the ide cable from the first hard drive because there were not two ports avaiable on that one, (does that matter?)

I boot the system up and everything runs fine.

I go into control panel to add new hardware since the second HDD is not showing up on its own under MY COMPUTER.

I locate the second HDD in the list and when I click on it, it tells me the device it working properly.

My question, I should say my main question, is how to access the drive and begin using it.

Do I need to format it or do somthing else that I am missing? drive manager or somthing like that?

Right click My Computer, select Manage, pick Disk Management from the menu on the left -> set up your disk for use.

right click "my computer" --> manage --> disk management --> click the drive --> format / create new partition

ok I did that but only one disk shows up in that list and I do not want to mess with my primary disk at all

do you think it is not showing up because I installed it using the ide cable that ran from the cd-rom drive?
