Of course it is possible. My Asus CROSSHAIR supports SLI, both cards at full x16 speed.
ANd there are other models that too have support of 2 cards at full x16.

My A8N-SLI Deluxe supports 2 x16s. It'd be surprising to see that newer cards don't...

No it doesn't. Not at full speed anyway. That was the whole point of the A8N32-SLI, which was the next board up from that.

yeah, i think its at 8x.

I have that same mobo still, and it's a terrible piece of shit.   The SATA chipsets don't work.  I have two 10k Rpm raptor drives that are collecting dust,  the onboard audio failed a few weeks after i got the board, and the northbridge fan burnt up (notorious for that).

But I do have two GTx 7800s, so that's pretty sweet

Soon I'll be capable, Imma buy a new mobo.

Then I'll buy another 7600GS.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

The A8N-SLI chipset is superb. Quite possibly the best 939 chipset there is.

Only one of those problems I've had with it was the Northbridge. I replaced it with a passive cooler and voila, no problem.

my Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe was a total failure and bomb.... never had more "interesting" motherboard than it was....

The chipset fan(s) was total failure ( total of 3 failed ones. first one died in two weeks).
Lost 350GB files because the board's BIOS went nuts and corrupted my filesystem 3 times.
Random reboots, crashes, squeal of deaths, BSODs.
Fail to boot sometimes when doing a "cold boot". worst one was 10 failed posts before it worked again. Failed to install 64bit operating system into my HDD.
Failed to boot from most of the SATA ports.
Unstable voltages. yes, 0.5v is quite dramatic shock for PC hardware.
Asus support failed.
RMA didn't help.
and the last thing that forced me upgrade my rig completely: It blew up two of my PSUs. one 750w and one 380w.

Asus support forums is full of similar horror stories with this board. you are a lucky guy elbekko...

I've had 8 A8N chipset mobos. All but one of them ran perfectly, the one that didn't had firmware issues and was RMA'd almost immediately - though I have been a victim of uber-long Asus RMA times in the past for an FX5800 I returned (I got a full refund after 8 months use - but they didn't give me it for 18 months, nor did they ever tell me I was going to be refunded, I just got chunk of money paid to me by Asus).

Don't use the hardware firewall on it though, it'll corrupt 90% of things you download through it.

yeah the hardware firewall is total fail. I tried to get a refund after RMA but no: "refund my ass" they said and gave me another A8N-SLI...
I still remember my reaction to the loud bang + smoke (my new 200€ PSU blew up quite literally). (less than a month after board's warranty ended)

Yep.  Dual 6600GT's, and I regret that decision.

SLi is a waste of money. The performance gains aren't even close to 2x and SLi really only excels at super high resolutions.

Better to invest that money in a better single card.

Put that money towards a 8800 GT instead.
