So the whole college garbage is starting at school, and in an effort to get to know us the college guidance counselors gave us a questionnaire (one of many as I infer by the title). This one question is really pissing me off:

"How would you describe your role in the community?"

Uhm, I don't have a role? I'm a student, and I'm not a particularly sociable individual. The friends I have aren't usually bawwwing at my shoulder asking for advice, if anything I ask them for advice. About the most important role I play is fixing people's computer problems, rick rolling people, creating lulz with my friends, and figuring out the 6 letter word in Text Twist.

Seriously, this pisses me off as much as those "What do you like about coffee/ice cream/hamburgers/sexes chat" questions when you apply for a job. Only this isn't even a job or college app, it's just for getting to know us (which will be better accomplished anyways when we actually meet with our counsellor).

Lie through your fucking teeth. It's good practice for job interviews.

Argh. Just last night we had a whole college meeting thing, and some admissions officers visited our schools and one of the things we were told was to "be ourselves." They said they know when someone's being a total bullshitter, since they all know nobody's perfect.

And really, although I've never done something srs bsns like this, I'm just not of the disposition to lie through my teeth. I'd rather be hired / accepted for who I am than as some guise of my true self.

edit: Guys this isn't an essay, I just don't know what the hell to say. I don't have a damned role.

just tell the fuckers you think the question is bullshit.

i've always felt the need to speak what i feel.

hell, one of my short answer essays to USC pretty much said fuck you, i'm not going to study. if i like the class i'll get an A, if i hate it i'll be average.

granted, i don't really want to go to USC, and i only applied so my mom would shut the fuck up. still, i think its better to tell them you don't like the question and refuse to give it an answer. if anything its going to tell them more about you than if you were to answer it with a lie.

It doesn't matter, no one ever looks at all of those questions. My guess is you guidance counselor is going to use it as a guide to write her letter to the colleges. So one question really doesn't matter.
