That said the wind speed outside in Iceland right now is about half the speed that the hurricane Katrina was, and is expected to go up to 200 km/h (~125 mph). There is a nationwide state of warning, people are told not to go out without a reason and to have curtains in front of their windows and to stay away from them in general.
Add snow to that, the whole north-west part of the country is in a big state of avalanche warning, many roads are being blocked by heaps of snow.
